Job Description
Big River Restaurants operates 38 Applebee's restaurants across the Greater Saint Louis and Louisiana regions, providing casual dining experiences that emphasize a warm, inviting atmosphere and quality service. As a franchisee of Applebee's, Big River Restaurants has a strong commitment to empowering its employees, recognizing achievements, and consistently exceeding expectations to deliver exceptional guest experiences. The company is rooted in its five core values: passion, integrity, respect, connect, and own it, which guide every action and decision within the organization. The culture at Big River Restaurants fosters inclusivity, encourages personal and professional growth, and supports a balanced lifestyle for associates. This vibrant environment is designed to develop the potential of each team member through continuous learning and by celebrating diversity and collaboration. The company prioritizes creating a social, exciting work environment where team members feel valued and motivated. Benefits provided include health care insurance, disability insurance, life insurance, 401k plans, flexible compensation, and paid leave, alongside opportunities for career advancement and flexible scheduling to accommodate individual needs.
The Host/Hostess role at Applebee's under Big River Restaurants plays a vital part in creating a memorable dining experience for guests from the moment they arrive until departure. The primary responsibility of the host is to greet and seat guests warmly, ensuring smooth and efficient flow throughout the restaurant. This role requires attentiveness and a genuine welcoming spirit as hosts open doors for guests, manage seating arrangements including waitlists during peak times, and assist servers by providing occasional guest support. Hosts also accommodate special guest needs such as highchairs, boosters, or accessibility requirements. Maintaining cleanliness and order of the host station area is also a key duty, including tasks like setting up the feature board and decorating with balloons for celebrations.
The position demands flexibility and mobility throughout shifts, with hosts needing to move around the restaurant frequently and handle objects up to 15 pounds. Effective communication skills in reading, writing, and verbal interaction are necessary to coordinate smoothly with both guests and team members. While prior hosting experience is an asset, enthusiasm for guest service and the ability to work collaboratively are critically important. Working as a host at Applebee's offers a pathway to grow within the company thanks to the supportive training and inclusive team culture. This hourly position requires reliable transportation and openness to varied schedules, ranging from weekdays to weekends and evenings, accommodating different availability. Joining Applebee's through Big River Restaurants means being part of an energetic team that celebrates successes, promotes growth, and upholds a valued connection to both the community and colleagues. It is an excellent opportunity for individuals seeking a rewarding role with diverse duties in a lively dining environment while enjoying comprehensive benefits and career advancement possibilities.
