Job Description
The parish community recognized for its welcoming environment and active fellowship seeks a dedicated Hospitality/Kitchen Coordinator to manage and enhance its hospitality ministry and kitchen operations. This part-time role, reporting directly to the Parish Business Manager, is vital in fostering a warm, inclusive atmosphere where parishioners can build connections and feel a sense of belonging through hospitality events and gatherings. The position involves up to 19 hours per week, offering flexibility suitable for candidates interested in part-time engagement within a faith-based community setting.
As the Hospitality/Kitchen Coordinator, you will play an essential leadership role in planning and executing a variety of parish activities such as funeral luncheons, receptions, parish meetings, special events, and fellowship gatherings. Your expertise in kitchen management will ensure that the facility remains spotless, safe, organized, and fully functional during events. In addition, you will collaborate closely with parish staff and ministry leaders to coordinate food preparation, event setup, and cleanup, ensuring every function runs smoothly and leaves a positive impression on attendees.
A key aspect of this role is empowering and nurturing volunteers to partake actively in the hospitality ministry. You will recruit, train, and support volunteers, building a team culture characterized by warmth, service, and shared responsibility. Through this, you encourage parishioners to live out their baptismal call to service by contributing their unique gifts to parish life. Organizing training sessions for individuals involved in the school lunch program and other parish groups is an integral responsibility, ensuring compliance with Oakland County Health Department (OCHD) regulations for licensed kitchen operation.
Aside from volunteer management, the coordinator maintains the volunteer database and schedules participants for various events, aligning with the needs of the parish calendar. Responsibility for purchasing and maintaining kitchen supplies and equipment also falls under your purview, ensuring resources are adequate and well-maintained at all times.
Candidates for this role must possess key certifications such as ServeSafe Manager and ServeSafe Allergens, underscoring the importance of food safety and allergen awareness in all kitchen operations. Strong organizational abilities and computer skills are essential to manage the logistics efficiently. The parish values candidates who demonstrate the ability to collaborate effectively with diverse groups and follow directions, which is crucial in a dynamic event environment.
In addition, compliance with Archdiocese of Detroit’s "Protecting God’s Children" Safe Environment Training and a current background check are mandatory to ensure the safety and wellbeing of all parish participants.
This role may require some evening and weekend hours depending on event schedules, demanding flexibility and a proactive approach. Overall, the Hospitality/Kitchen Coordinator is a cornerstone position that enriches the parish experience by ensuring all hospitality aspects are delivered professionally while nurturing the spirit of community and service within the parish family.
