Job Description
First Ascent Climbing & Fitness is a dynamic and inclusive company dedicated to sharing the joy and benefits of climbing, yoga, and fitness with everyone. Established in 2015, First Ascent has grown into a beloved community of climbers, with eight gyms spanning multiple locations. The company’s mission is to foster connections through movement, build welcoming and supportive spaces, and strengthen not just bodies but minds and communities alike. First Ascent’s commitment to inclusivity and positive community-building is evident in its focus on creating uplifting environments where both newcomers and seasoned climbers feel at home and inspired.
At First Ascent, the experience is centered on community, safety, and personal growth. The gyms serve as hubs where people can challenge themselves physically and mentally while also building lasting relationships with others who share their passion for climbing and fitness. Embedded within the company’s culture is a respect for each individual’s journey, whether they are just starting to climb or have been passionate enthusiasts for years. The organization supports its members through expert guidance, educational programs, and a variety of fitness initiatives designed to promote health and wellness.
The role of the Hospitality Manager at First Ascent is an essential leadership position that plays a crucial part in delivering this exceptional member experience. As Hospitality Manager, you are the frontline leader responsible for the overall guest and member experience at the gym’s Welcome Desk and front-of-house. This position requires a proactive, positive, and supportive individual who thrives on coaching a team and creating an atmosphere that feels welcoming and productive. Your leadership will help hospitality staff welcome and support everyone who walks through the door, ensuring they feel comfortable and set up for success in their visit.
This full-time, salaried position offers an annual salary range of $40,000 to $45,000 based on experience, along with a robust benefits package including health, dental, vision, and disability insurance, a 401(k) plan, paid time off, free membership to all First Ascent locations, and access to pro-deals. The Hospitality Manager will have responsibilities that include hiring and training hospitality staff, scheduling and payroll oversight, coaching and development, and maintaining gym cleanliness and organization. You will also serve as the subject matter expert on First Ascent programs, pricing, and policies, equipping your team to confidently engage with members and guests.
Collaboration is key to this role, as you will work closely with the Gym Manager and other leaders to plan initiatives and improve the overall vibrancy of the gym community. Your ability to gather feedback from members and guests, enforce policies professionally, and manage retail inventory will also contribute significantly to the smooth operation and success of the facility. Beyond managing day-to-day operations, you will be instrumental in fostering a culture of friendly, respectful, and effective communication among your team and with the broader membership.
This role requires physical capability to stand and move throughout the facility for extended periods and to perform tasks such as lifting up to 50 pounds, climbing, bending, and reaching. The environment is an indoor, climate-controlled space with moderate noise levels where your focus and communication skills remain paramount. If you have a background in customer service, leadership experience, strong communication and computer skills, and an enthusiasm for climbing and community-building, this is an excellent opportunity to join a thriving company dedicated to making climbing accessible and enjoyable for all.
