Job Description
This opportunity is with a prestigious private family residence located in the serene and exclusive area of Montecito, California. The family seeks an accomplished hospitality professional to join their team in a role that merges the elegance of a traditional butler with the warmth and approachability of a personal concierge. Montecito is renowned for its luxury lifestyle, remarkable estates, and proximity to beautiful Santa Barbara, offering a magnificent backdrop for service-oriented professionals eager to work in a high-end private home setting. The family values discretion, polished professionalism, and a passion for hospitality that transcends typical service roles. This position is tailored to someone who thrives in vibrant social environments, enjoys facilitating seamless entertaining, and appreciates the nuances of personalized guest experiences.
The role is designed for a Junior Butler or Butler Associate/Personal Concierge who is adept at delivering superior service in a variety of contexts, from intimate dinners to large-scale family reunions. Unlike ultra-formal traditional butler positions, this role emphasizes a relaxed, yet exquisitely attentive service style. The live-out role requires the candidate to be based within reasonable commuting distance in Santa Barbara County, underscoring the importance of local knowledge and commitment. The work schedule is primarily from Thursday through Monday aligned with the principals’ presence in residence, with hours generally running from 1 pm to 9 pm, though flexibility is key to accommodate dinners and special events.
Reporting directly to the Estate Manager and maintaining open communication with the family principals, the candidate will play a crucial role in ensuring every in-house event and gathering is flawlessly executed. The position offers a competitive salary range of $80,000 to $120,000 depending on experience, alongside a comprehensive benefits package that includes paid holidays, vacation days, and health benefits such as medical, dental, life insurance, and a Simple IRA retirement plan. The family’s vibrant calendar includes frequent dinner parties, semi-annual large events, monthly house guests, and annual reunions, ensuring dynamic and engaging workdays.
The ideal candidate will bring a wealth of hospitality experience, preferably from high-end restaurants, hotels, private clubs, or concierge roles. They will have an intuitive understanding of timing, flow, and guest needs and be comfortable working alongside chefs and other household staff. Responsibilities will range from preparing and serving cocktails, managing the bar and beverage inventory, assisting with food prep for casual and formal events, to light household duties and errands. The role demands discretion, impeccable professionalism, and a genuine service mindset.
Furthermore, this position is an excellent opportunity for those eager to develop their skills in cocktail making and wine knowledge, with the principals open to providing training. The household support aspects encompass practical tasks such as ensuring vehicles are ready and handling light cleaning duties during events when needed. During the principals’ absence, the candidate will take on organizational projects, inventory management, and preparation for upcoming events. This is a dynamic and multifaceted role that requires adaptability, collaboration, and a proactive approach.
Candidates should be comfortable with technology, including basic apps and inventory tools, possess a valid driver’s license with a clean record, and meet physical requirements such as the ability to lift up to 50 pounds. Professional yet approachable attire standards are essential, reflecting the sunny and casual sophistication of Montecito living while maintaining respect for the household’s refined atmosphere. With its blend of warm hospitality, professional service, and the unique lifestyle of a private estate, this role offers a rewarding career path for dedicated individuals seeking to excel in private household service.
