Job Description
Agawam Hunt, founded in 1897, is one of the original 25 United States Golf Association (USGA) Member Clubs, making it an establishment rich in history and prestige. Located just minutes from downtown Providence in Rumford, Rhode Island, Agawam Hunt is a family-friendly, year-round private club that offers members a variety of high-quality recreational facilities. The club features an 18-hole Donald Ross-designed golf course renowned for its classic design and challenging play. Beyond golf, Agawam Hunt boasts excellent facilities that include both indoor and outdoor tennis courts, pickleball courts, a platform tennis area, squash courts, and a swimming pool, catering to a wide range of athletic and leisure interests. The club prides itself on fostering a close-knit community of families and individuals who enjoy a vibrant social and sporting atmosphere throughout the year.
The club's Food & Beverage program is a premier component of its overall offerings, aiming to deliver exceptional dining experiences to its members and their guests. Agawam Hunt is currently seeking qualified culinary professionals for the summer 2024 season to join their dedicated team. The available positions include Short Order Cooks, Prep Cooks, and Line Cooks. These positions are pivotal in supporting the club's busy season from May through October, where lunch service is primarily offered poolside in an outdoor setting. The team operates in a fast-paced environment that requires both professionalism and a friendly, approachable demeanor. While the summer months represent the peak of activity, there is potential for qualified and committed individuals to secure year-round roles by demonstrating their skills and dedication.
As a part of the culinary team, Short Order and Prep Cooks are responsible for preparing a variety of lunch menu items such as sandwiches, salads, burgers, and poke bowls, ensuring that all dishes meet the club's high standards for taste and presentation. These roles demand a strong knowledge of food preparation techniques, excellent multitasking abilities, and consistent adherence to food safety and sanitation guidelines. Teamwork, communication, and flexibility are highly valued, as is the ability to work long hours on the feet both indoors and outdoors. For the Line Cook position, the responsibilities are more extensive, including preparing and cooking menu components using established recipes, maintaining cleanliness, and working collaboratively in a scratch kitchen setting. The Line Cook role also involves unique opportunities such as working with whole animals like fish and pigs, engaging with farm-to-table concepts by collaborating with a local farm that supplies produce exclusive to the club, and participating in foraging and food preservation projects. This role requires at least four years of relevant experience and a high degree of professionalism.
Working at Agawam Hunt means becoming part of a culinary team committed to excellence, sustainability, and community. The club offers a supportive environment where individuals are empowered to bring their own talents and personalities to their roles. In addition to competitive salaries based on experience, team members can enjoy access to the club's amenities such as golf and racquet sports, complimentary meals and beverages during shifts, and opportunities for career advancement within the culinary department. This is an exciting opportunity for culinary professionals who are passionate about food, thrive in dynamic environments, and are eager to contribute to a prestigious club's exceptional dining experience.
