Job Description
Stride, Inc. is a leading provider of online education solutions, known for its commitment to delivering high-quality and personalized learning experiences through its K12 platform. As a Stride Company, K12 offers families an innovative online option that supports students in thriving academically and personally by allowing them to learn at their own pace in a flexible environment. Michigan Great Lakes Virtual Academy (MGLVA), a partner school within the Stride network, embodies the mission to provide individualized and engaging education by combining rigorous curriculum with strong community and family partnerships. This approach promotes student success through data-driven instruction and collaboration, ensuring academic growth and satisfaction among students and families alike.
The Culinary Arts Teacher role at MGLVA is a full-time, virtual position set to begin in the 2026/2027 school year. This position offers a base salary of around $47,000, with the potential for additional performance bonuses, reflecting the candidate's education, experience, and the specific job location. The ideal candidate will reside in Michigan and possess the required Michigan Teaching Certification along with certifications in Culinary Arts, Education, Hospitality, or related fields. Additionally, candidates should have the ability to obtain a Career and Technical Education (CTE) certification if not already certified.
In this role, the teacher will engage students through hands-on cooking instruction, food preparation, kitchen safety, and hospitality skills, preparing them for real-world careers in the food service industry. Responsibilities include delivering a curriculum aligned with state standards and CTE pathways, teaching essential food safety practices including ServSafe standards, and managing the classroom kitchen environment. The position requires strong classroom management, organizational skills, and the ability to differentiate instruction to meet diverse student needs and skill levels. The Culinary Arts Teacher will assess student progress through practical and written evaluations, manage inventory and budgeting for kitchen supplies, and foster industry connections through guest speakers and internships.
This dynamic role also involves supervising students during labs to ensure safe use of equipment, collaborating with other staff on interdisciplinary projects, and maintaining regular communication with students, families, and colleagues. The position demands a professional, distraction-free home office conducive to virtual teaching during typical school hours. The teacher will contribute to school events and programs involving culinary services and uphold the academy’s commitment to student success and career readiness.
Stride, Inc. values equal opportunity, promoting an inclusive workplace free from discrimination based on race, gender, disability, or other protected characteristics. The company ensures reasonable accommodations are available for employees with disabilities to perform essential functions. The Culinary Arts Teacher role within MGLVA represents an exciting opportunity for passionate educators who are eager to inspire and prepare students for meaningful careers in the culinary and hospitality industries, all while working within a supportive and innovative virtual learning environment.
