Job Description
Driscoll Children’s Hospital is a premier pediatric healthcare facility located in South Texas, renowned for being the first free-standing pediatric hospital in the region. It is dedicated to serving the children and adolescents of Corpus Christi and surrounding communities with expert care, education, outreach, and advocacy. As an integral part of the Driscoll Health System, the hospital emphasizes a commitment not only to patient health but also to the well-being and professional growth of its employees. The hospital's culture is built on compassion, innovation, and a sense of family among its staff, making it a supportive and enriching workplace. It fosters an environment where employees are encouraged to grow, succeed, and contribute meaningfully to the community's health outcomes.
The High Risk Clinical Dietitian role at Driscoll Children’s Hospital focuses on providing specialized nutritional care for infants and children aged 0 to 3 years, particularly those who are high-risk patients such as former NICU graduates. This position involves working primarily in an outpatient setting where evidence-based medical nutrition therapy is vital. The role requires in-depth assessments, the development of comprehensive care plans, and ongoing education for patients, their families, and healthcare teams about nutritional interventions. This position is ideal for new graduates who are registration eligible, as well as experienced dietitians at various career levels (Graduate, Level I, Level II, Level III), with opportunities for growth and specialization.
The hospital supports its staff with various benefits including a sign-on bonus and relocation assistance to attract new talent. Employees have access to an Employee Care Center providing quality healthcare for themselves and their adult dependents, a Wellness Program to promote health and well-being, and an Employee Assistance Program offering confidential counseling services. The benefits also extend to financial security through a 403(b) Retirement Plan with employer matching, generous paid time off allowing up to 24 days annually, tuition reimbursement for educational advancement, adoption assistance, and on-site childcare for convenience. Additionally, Driscoll fosters professional development with lectures, courses, skills labs, and research opportunities to help dietitians stay current and excel in their field.
Career progression within the dietitian role includes various levels of responsibility and expertise: Graduate Dietitians work under supervision to gain clinical experience preparing for credentialing; Level I Dietitians develop foundational skills under general supervision; Level II Dietitians manage complex cases more independently and participate in quality improvement initiatives; and Level III Dietitians act as clinical and professional experts leading patient care, mentoring colleagues, and representing the department. All dietitians at Driscoll are required to maintain certifications and licenses, including Food Safety, Basic Life Support, and Texas state licensure, underscoring the hospital's commitment to excellence and patient safety. This role offers an enriching opportunity to impact pediatric nutrition care at a respected institution in a community-focused environment.
