The role of Health Unit Coordinator (HUC) is an integral position within the hospital’s newly opening, state-of-the-art Intensive Care Unit (ICU). Reporting directly to the Unit Manager, the HUC performs essential secretarial and receptionist duties that are crucial to the effective operation of the ICU nursing station. As a focal point for communication, the Health Unit Coordinator assists in maintaining patient records, accurately transcribing physician orders in compliance with hospital policies, and coordinating patient admission, transfer, and discharge activities. This position demands a strong aptitude for managing patient information securely with a strict emphasis on patient confidentiality and adherence to HIPAA regulations. The HUC is responsible for ensuring that all paperwork and patient charts are complete, correctly labeled, and organized for smooth nursing workflows. Additionally, the coordinator orders supplies based on unit needs, supports equipment maintenance through appropriate request submissions, and helps maintain cleanliness and order at the nursing station. Exceptional customer service skills are vital, as the HUC acts as a welcoming receptionist to staff, physicians, visitors, and ancillary services, offering timely assistance and communication. The successful candidate will demonstrate a willingness to participate actively as a team player and uphold the hospital’s Service Excellence Standards by projecting a positive and professional demeanor. The role requires compliance with OSHA universal precautions, safety protocols, and adherence to the hospital dress code. The Health Unit Coordinator also plays a key role in emergency situations, aware of their responsibilities and promptly reporting any unsafe practices. This position offers an exciting opportunity to be part of a highly respected healthcare organization that continuously strives to advance healthcare delivery and patient satisfaction in a collaborative and professional environment.
