Job Requirements

  • Minimum 4 year bachelor's degree in industrial hygiene, environmental science, applied or basic science, safety management or related field preferred
  • minimum 5 years of related experience in environmental health and safety compliance in cement, ready mix or related industry preferred
  • first-aid and CPR certification required
  • ability to read, write and understand warning labels, instructions, signs, etc.
  • extensive knowledge of applicable federal, state and local safety laws and regulations
  • working knowledge of industrial hygiene policies and practices
  • working knowledge of safety programs applicable to cement manufacturing environment
  • skills in planning, organization, problem solving, decision making, and communication
  • ability to use a personal computer
  • willingness to travel up to 10 percent

Job Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Industrial Hygiene, Environmental Science, Applied or Basic Science, Safety Management or related field preferred
  • minimum five years of experience in Environmental Health and Safety compliance preferably in cement, ready mix or related industry
  • first-aid and CPR certification required
  • ability to read, write and comprehend safety-related documents
  • extensive knowledge of applicable federal, state and local safety laws and regulations
  • working knowledge of industrial hygiene policies and procedures
  • experience with safety programs in cement manufacturing environment
  • strong planning, organization, problem solving, decision making, and communication skills
  • proficiency in personal computer use
  • willingness to travel up to 10 percent

Job Duties

  • Promote and follow all plant safety guidelines
  • work toward compliance with federal, state and local safety laws and regulations including MSHA
  • accompany inspectors during inspections and maintain required safety records
  • administer safety training and awareness programs to prevent accidents and promote compliance
  • collaborate with supervisors and employees to develop and enforce safety procedures
  • coordinate the development and monitoring of emergency response systems
  • administer the fire protection program including inspection and maintenance
  • recommend purchase of safety equipment such as safety shoes, glasses, and first-aid supplies
  • oversee Safety Committee meetings and provide recommendations
  • conduct in-house inspections to identify and eliminate hazardous conditions
  • conduct industrial hygiene testing including audiometric exams, noise and dust surveys
  • investigate accidents and injuries in cooperation with workers' compensation carrier
  • complete workers' compensation reports and maintain records
  • administer first aid and CPR training as needed
  • perform other duties assigned by supervisor
