Job Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in environmental health and safety or related field or equivalent education and experience
  • At least 10 years of relevant construction or engineering experience
  • Ability to communicate effectively in written and oral formats with diplomacy and tact
  • Aptitude for independent thinking and reasoning
  • Demonstrated success in teaching health and safety concepts
  • Skilled in leading others without formal authority
  • Proven knowledge of US Army Corps of Engineers EM 385-1-1 and OSHA standards 1910 and 1926
  • Competent with Microsoft Office, email, and Windows
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain military base pass as required
  • Current US driver's license and good driving record
  • Must be able and willing to travel to project site

Job Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Environmental Health and Safety or a related field or equivalent experience
  • Proven knowledge of US Army Corps of Engineers EM 385-1-1, OSHA standards 1910 and 1926
  • Demonstrated success in teaching health and safety concepts and requirements
  • Skilled in leading others without formal reporting authority
  • Experience in construction or engineering health and safety for at least 10 years
  • Competent in Microsoft Office products, email systems, and Windows
  • Ability to communicate effectively in written and oral formats
  • Experience leading subcontractors and project teams in health and safety endeavors is preferred
  • Certified Safety Professional (CSP) or Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH) designation is a plus
  • HAZWOPER 40 Hour Certification and 8 Hour Refresher Certification preferred
  • HAZWOPER Supervisor Certification
  • USACE Contractor Quality Management (CQM) Training
  • OSHA 30 Hour Construction Certification
  • Experience with waterfront, pier, or dock construction is advantageous
  • Prior experience with U.S. Coast Guard projects or regulations is beneficial
  • Experience with design/build projects is ideal

Job Duties

  • Ensure the implementation of accident prevention plans, health and safety plans, applicable regulations and SOPs
  • Actively promote and support the health and safety programs at project sites
  • Oversee the completion of activity hazard analysis preparation and acceptance
  • Facilitate health and safety training for company staff, subcontractors, and required parties including developing training content and delivering course information
  • Author health and safety related documentation, completing required information for daily reports and client communications
  • Ensure all documentation is organized and stored as required
  • Conduct regular inspections to assess compliance with applicable requirements
  • Take appropriate actions to prevent loss and mitigate risk
  • Ensure deficiencies are corrected timely and to acceptable measures
  • Represent the company professionally in client and regulatory agency interactions as the primary point of contact for site health and safety
  • Collaborate with project managers to integrate health and safety activities into project plans
  • Log health and safety incidents in the company incident database
  • Facilitate incident investigations with associated documentation
  • Verify implementation and close-out of corrective actions
  • Provide mentoring, direction, and subject matter expertise to health and safety supervisors and junior staff
  • Participate in employment interviews and make hiring recommendations
  • Provide performance feedback regarding junior level staff
  • Interface with senior management, escalating issues and recommending policy and procedure changes
  • Complete subcontractor reviews
  • Perform other responsibilities, tasks, and deliverables related to health and safety management as assigned
