Job Description
The restaurant is an elevated cocktail bar and tavern located near Oracle Park in San Francisco. This establishment is dedicated to offering approachable, craveable food and beverages with serious intention. It is a bar-forward concept where both the kitchen and the drinks play equally important roles in creating a memorable guest experience. The focus is on elevated tavern fare that highlights seasonal ingredients and pairs perfectly with craft cocktails, along with a carefully curated selection of wines, beers, and spirits. While guests come primarily for the drinks, they stay because of the quality and creativity of the food. The role is for an experienced Chef to lead the kitchen operations as the restaurant launches this exciting new concept. This position offers an opportunity to be the culinary visionary behind the menu, designing dishes that complement the bar program with elevated small plates and bar food. As the chef, you will manage all daily kitchen operations with a focus on consistency, quality, and speed. You will also oversee innovative cooking techniques such as wood-fired and spit-roasted preparations while ensuring that every plate leaving the kitchen meets the highest standards of excellence and presentation. Additionally, you will be responsible for building and mentoring a strong, cohesive kitchen team from the ground up, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and professionalism.
This role includes partnering closely with ownership to establish the culinary vision and develop kitchen systems and operational standards especially suited for the new restaurant opening. Managing inventory, food costs, ordering, and vendor relationships will also be key components of ensuring profitability while maintaining premium ingredient quality. Collaboration with the beverage program is essential to create food and drink pairings that enhance the guest experience even further. Maintaining rigorous food safety, cleanliness, and health compliance standards will also be essential to the role.

Job Requirements
- 5+ years of professional kitchen experience with 2+ years in lead or sous chef role
- Proven experience with new restaurant openings or launching culinary concepts
- Experience with bar/tavern cuisine or gastropub concepts
- Proficiency in grilling, spit-roasting, wood-fire cooking techniques
- Ability to develop and cost small plates or bar-focused menus
- Strong leadership and team mentoring skills
- Knowledge of food safety and health compliance standards
- Effective communication and collaboration skills
Job Qualifications
- 5+ years of professional kitchen experience, with at least 2 years in a lead or sous chef role
- Proven experience opening and launching a new restaurant or significant culinary concept
- Proven experience with elevated bar/tavern cuisine or gastropub concepts
- Proficiency in a range of cooking techniques including grilling, spit-roasting, wood-fire cooking, and more
- Experience developing and costing small plates, tapas, or bar-focused menus
- Banquet and catering experience is highly valued
- Strong understanding of food and beverage pairing principles
- Demonstrated ability to lead, train, and inspire kitchen staff
- Culinary degree or equivalent professional training preferred
