Job Description

Chalet is a well-established facility that operates a multi-purpose campus consisting of a five-story office building, a substantial retail store, and administrative offices located in Wilmette. The role available is a full-time, year-round Maintenance position, reporting directly to the Facilities Manager. In this position, the successful candidate will undertake a variety of hands-on maintenance tasks crucial for the upkeep of Chalet’s diverse campus. The buildings consist of modern office spaces as well as retail environments, which require a proactive and thorough approach to maintenance and cleanliness. The Maintenance Technician will participate in routine and preventative maintenance, minor repairs, and custodial work to ensure all areas remain clean and safe. This role is integral to supporting the facility's operational needs and involves collaborating closely with staff and management to address maintenance issues efficiently.

In this role, there is a strong emphasis on customer service as the technician will interact frequently with staff, tenants, customers, and visitors. Providing courteous and professional service is paramount. Additionally, the technician will be expected to handle emergency maintenance requests as needed and carry out tasks such as handling recycling, replacing light bulbs, polishing fixtures using power equipment, and operating a forklift if certified. Maintaining the exterior grounds, including sweeping walkways and cleaning gutters, also falls under this role, further highlighting the need for a versatile skill set.

Besides technical skills, the Maintenance Technician must demonstrate initiative and good judgment by identifying potential issues before they escalate, performing timely repairs, and communicating with the Facilities Manager regarding more complex concerns. Support for meetings or events through facility setup and breakdown is another responsibility, showcasing the position's dynamic nature. Job Requirements

  • Previous custodial and/or maintenance experience is required
  • strong mechanical aptitude
  • friendly and easily approachable style
  • ability to lift 75 pounds, bend, reach, push/pull, kneel, climb and use ladders confidently
  • forklift certification a plus
  • proactive in identifying and troubleshooting facility issues
  • good time management skills
  • trustworthy, dependable and conscientious
  • must pass pre-employment drug test
  • consent to background and motor vehicle check post offer
  • willingness to work a 5-day work week, preferably Tuesday-Saturday or Monday-Friday

Job Qualifications

Job Duties

  • Ensure all work and retail spaces are clean and safe
  • provide courteous, professional and prompt customer service to staff, tenants, customers and visitors
  • attend to emergencies when necessary
  • handle recycling materials, replace light bulbs, clean and polish fixtures using power equipment and forklift as needed
  • proactively identify maintenance and minor repairs that are needed
  • perform maintenance and minor repairs and inform Facilities Manager of more major issues that need outside services
  • assist with the setup of facilities for meetings or events
  • maintain outside walk areas including sweeping leaves and debris, clean gutters as needed
  • perform other maintenance or custodial tasks as needed
