Job Description
Delaware North Sportservice is a prominent hospitality company with a rich legacy of more than 100 years. Established as a family-owned business, Delaware North has cultivated a global presence, operating in diverse sectors including sports arenas, national parks, casinos, hotels, restaurants, and retail. Among its many prestigious operations, Delaware North manages the concessions, premium dining, and retail services at the Cincinnati Reds Great American Ball Park. This partnership with the Reds has been ongoing since 1936, reflecting a long-standing relationship rooted in quality service and fan experience. The company emphasizes creating great times in great places, aiming to offer guests exceptional experiences through a blend of upscale dining, comprehensive bar services featuring local craft beers, and in-seat ordering options that include chef-inspired specialties and beloved ballpark favorites.
Joining Delaware North means becoming part of a global team dedicated to hospitality excellence and career growth. For those passionate about working in vibrant, iconic locations, Delaware North offers numerous opportunities for personal and professional development with flexible working arrangements, training programs, and mentorship initiatives designed to enhance skills and open pathways to advancement. The company prides itself on fostering an inclusive and supportive work environment where all employees are valued and respected equally. They maintain a strong commitment to equal opportunity employment, considering candidates from varied backgrounds without regard to race, gender, age, disability, or other protected statuses.
The role of a Food Runner at Delaware North Sportservice’s Great American Ball Park is a dynamic and vital position within their food service team. As a Food Runner, the individual is responsible for efficiently expediting food orders from the kitchen to guests, ensuring that service is timely and meals arrive in excellent condition. This position supports the kitchen team and servers by collaboratively managing the flow of orders and contributing to a seamless dining experience. Food Runners must maintain good knowledge of the menu items and presentations to assist in orders and provide a professional level of service. Additionally, the role requires assisting with table-side services such as order delivery, explaining menu selections to guests, and maintaining cleanliness and organization in kitchen and suite areas.
This opportunity is seasonal and event-based, offering a compensation model paid per event rather than hourly wages, with a standard guaranteed pay of $77 per event, corresponding roughly to an $11 hourly equivalent based on seven-hour events. Importantly, this is a tipped position, meaning that employees can also earn gratuities on top of their event pay. The role demands physical stamina as it involves constant standing, walking, bending, and lifting, alongside the ability to navigate busy environments swiftly and safely. Delaware North supports its team members with benefits such as weekly pay, flexible work schedules, employee discounts, and robust training and development opportunities. Eligible employees may also access comprehensive healthcare, paid leave, retirement plans, employee assistance programs, and educational reimbursement.
In summary, the Food Runner position at Delaware North Sportservice is ideal for individuals seeking an active, guest-focused role within a reputable, historic hospitality company. It offers a unique experience working in a premier sports venue while providing professional growth, competitive compensation, and a supportive workplace culture fostering success and development.
