This position is a School Custodian role, ideally suited for those beginning or returning to the workforce, offering valuable on-the-job training regardless of prior experience or educational background. The role involves maintaining cleanliness and safety across designated areas within K-12 schools, colleges, or university campuses. Responsibilities include cleaning classrooms, hallways, restrooms, and other key areas, ensuring that facilities are welcoming and hygienic for students, faculty, and visitors. Custodians will handle sweeping, mopping, trash removal, surface dusting, and light maintenance tasks while adhering to safety and quality standards established by ABM and client institutions.

The job is physically engaging and important for maintaining an environment that supports educational activities. Custodians are expected to operate cleaning equipment and chemicals safely, report issues requiring repair, and maintain effective communication with supervisors and co-workers. Seasonal duties such as raking leaves, snow removal, and basic groundskeeping may also be part of the role. Job Requirements

  • Must be 18 years of age or older
  • No experience required as on the job training is provided
  • No high school diploma, GED, or college degree required
  • Ability to work flexible hours as needed
  • Must comply with all safety, security, and quality standards
  • Ability to use cleaning equipment and chemical cleaners safely
  • Physically capable of performing cleaning duties

Job Qualifications

  • Prior customer service experience preferred
  • One year of prior similar work experience preferred
  • Ability to follow safety and cleaning procedures
  • Basic communication and teamwork skills
  • Physically able to perform cleaning and maintenance tasks

Job Duties

  • Clean and maintain assigned area including classrooms, hallways, restrooms, locker rooms, offices, and stairways
  • Sweep, remove debris, clean spills, and mop floors in designated areas
  • Regularly check trash receptacles and empty as needed
  • Follow procedures for using chemical cleaners and power equipment to prevent damage
  • Notify lead cleaner or manager regarding repairs or system issues
  • Establish and maintain effective communication with clients, co-workers, and supervisors
  • Collect, consolidate, and separate recycling into proper receptacles
