Job Description
Fontainebleau Miami Beach is a legendary luxury hotel situated on the oceanfront Collins Avenue in the heart of Millionaire's Row, Miami Beach. This iconic establishment is renowned for its unique blend of Golden Era glamour and modern luxury, a vision originally brought to life by the celebrated architect Morris Lapidus. Since its opening in 1954, Fontainebleau has been recognized as one of the most architecturally significant and historically important hotels in Miami Beach, embodying a vibrant fusion of striking design, contemporary art, music, fashion, and technology that together create an unforgettable guest experience.
At Fontainebleau, guests are invited to explore a world where they can freely play, shop, dine, enjoy spa services, meet new people, or simply relax and define their perfect day in their own way. This illustrious hotel stands as a dynamic stage where everyone plays their unique part, reflecting Lapidus' philosophy that if the setting is grand, everyone within it rises to the occasion. The hotel continues to reinvent this tradition, maintaining its status as an iconic destination that attracts discerning travelers seeking a sophisticated and luxurious atmosphere.
The role of Lead Sommelier at Fontainebleau Miami Beach is a prestigious and pivotal position within the food and beverage team. This leadership role is designed for a wine professional who is passionate about inspiring and educating both staff and guests on the art and science of wine. The Lead Sommelier is not only responsible for motivating and mentoring the beverage team’s wine knowledge but also plays a crucial part in delivering an exceptional wine service experience that delights guests and enhances their overall visit.
The Lead Sommelier oversees daily beverage service operations to ensure that quality standards are consistently met, specifically focusing on the selection, presentation, and service of wines. This individual manages the bar program, including purchasing and inventory of all liquor, ensuring efficient stock control and cost management. Analytical skills are essential in this role, as the sommelier analyzes daily, weekly, and monthly beverage sales to identify opportunities for increasing profitability and maximizing revenue.
In addition to operational responsibilities, the Lead Sommelier fosters a culture of continuous improvement, encouraging team members to contribute ideas for enhancing products, processes, and service quality. Handling guest concerns with professionalism and implementing effective resolutions also forms a core part of this role. The Lead Sommelier is entrusted with scheduling labor, assigning tasks, and leading the beverage service team to uphold high standards of quality, health, and hygiene.
Staff development is a key focus of this position. The Lead Sommelier plans, manages, and monitors team performance, conducts training to ensure strong product knowledge, and coaches staff to become confident in upselling and delivering service excellence. Regular feedback and performance reviews are used to set objectives aligned with both individual growth and organizational goals.
This role requires a thoughtful leader with excellent communication abilities, organizational skills, and a problem-solving mindset. It offers the opportunity to work in one of Miami Beach's most prestigious hotels, contributing to its legacy of luxury and exceptional guest experiences.
