The role of the Guest Services Representative (Part-Time) at Dr. Phillips Center is vital in creating a positive and memorable first impression for all guests. This position entails greeting and assisting guests as they arrive at the center, providing detailed information about the venue, and ensuring smooth access to events. Responsibilities include scanning tickets, distributing playbills, directing guests to key locations such as restrooms, bars, and theater doors, and aiding guests with special needs or disabilities in a respectful and knowledgeable manner. The role requires comprehensive knowledge of the facility's layout, emergency exits, concessions, merchandise, and local amenities such as valet parking and nearby restaurants or hotels. As a face of the center, the Guest Services Representative must maintain a positive and friendly demeanor at all times, addressing guest concerns promptly and professionally. This position also involves working closely with volunteers and other staff members to uphold cleanliness, safety, and operational standards before, during, and after events. The ability to remain calm under pressure, communicate effectively in English, and adapt to changing situations is essential. Training is provided on life safety, crowd management, ADA compliance, and guest service protocols to ensure the highest level of preparedness. The representative contributes to the overall success of the center by supporting a welcoming arts environment and promoting ancillary programs and services offered on-site. Availability for variable shifts, including evenings, weekends, and holidays, is required to meet the operational demands of the performing arts center.

Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • One-year experience providing high-touch guest service preferably in performing arts, entertainment, or hospitality
  • Experience with merchandise sales and cash/credit transaction processing
  • Ability to perform basic math functions accurately
  • Ability to maintain high standards in guest service with a diverse audience
  • Strong ability to adapt to change and work effectively under pressure
  • Effective communication skills
  • Ability to work well in a team environment
  • Availability for three shifts per week including at least one weekend shift
  • Ability to work variable schedule including evenings, weekends, and holidays

Job Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • One-year experience in guest service preferably in performing arts, entertainment, or hospitality
  • Experience with merchandise sales and cash/credit transaction processing
  • Ability to perform basic math functions accurately
  • Ability to maintain high standards in guest service with diverse audiences
  • Strong adaptability and ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced environment
  • Effective communication skills
  • Ability to work well in a team
  • Familiarity with theater seating and terminology preferred

Job Duties

  • Provide exemplary guest service while performing activities such as greeting guests, seating guests, scanning tickets, distributing playbills, assisting guests with special access, and directing guests to various locations
  • Demonstrate thorough knowledge of building layout including concessions, merchandise sales, restrooms, concierge desk, elevators, stairs, emergency exits, first aid station, and local area amenities
  • Maintain a positive attitude and welcoming demeanor while responding to guest concerns professionally, quickly, thoroughly, and respectfully
  • Attend all pre-show/event meetings to understand show/event details and coordinate intermission activities
  • Assist with leading volunteers in operational responsibilities
  • Work quickly as a team to maintain cleanliness of theater and lobby areas before and after events and set up required elements including lifting and carrying
  • Monitor guests and surroundings for safety concerns or hazards and adhere to safety procedures, assisting in emergencies and evacuations as needed
  • Interact with guests with disabilities respectfully and fulfill needs as per ADA training
  • Complete required training on Life Safety, Crowd Management, Evacuation, ADA, and Guest Service protocols
  • Stay informed on ancillary programs, arts center news, and support operational policies and core values
  • Maintain professional and friendly relationships with departments, colleagues, and partners
  • Remain calm under pressure and effectively communicate in English
  • Perform other duties as assigned
