Job Description
The Nellis Inn, located on Nellis Air Force Base in Nevada, operates as part of the Morale, Welfare, and Recreation (MWR) services for the United States Air Force and Space Force. It provides lodging and hospitality services primarily for military personnel, their families, and authorized guests visiting the base. The Nellis Inn plays a crucial role in supporting the comfort and convenience of guests by maintaining a professional and welcoming environment. As a nonappropriated fund position, the Nellis Inn is committed to delivering superior customer service and efficient management of lodging operations while adhering to military protocols and government regulations.
This particular position is designed for flexible employees who do not have guaranteed work hours but may work up to 40 hours per week. The role requires availability across all shifts including days, nights, weekends, and holidays, reflecting the 24/7 nature of lodging services at a military installation. It is a permanent position classified under the NF 1 pay scale, offering an hourly wage range of $19.35 to $23.15. The appointment is intermittent and flexible, meaning the work schedule can vary but remains within the maximum weekly hours.
The core responsibility of this role is to provide front desk and guest services support to ensure smooth lodging operations. This includes handling multiple administrative tasks such as receiving and confirming room reservations through various communication channels like telephone, email, letter, or in-person contact. Employees in this position register guests, assign rooms, issue room keys, and sometimes escort guests to their rooms to ensure a high level of customer satisfaction. They are responsible for enforcing policies that restrict the use of government-sponsored quarters to authorized patrons only.
In addition to guest registration, the role involves financial transactions where employees calculate charges, post them to patrons’ accounts, balance control records, accept payments, make change, and prepare checkout statements. Handling cash responsibly by preparing daily cashier’s reports and safeguarding cash receipts is a key function. The employee helps maintain daily activity records and consolidates reports when necessary.
Another essential aspect of the job is maintaining a clean and organized front desk and lobby area to uphold the professional appearance and ambiance of the inn. The position requires constant communication with housekeeping and maintenance departments to update room statuses and address any guest-reported issues efficiently. Employees also manage a sundry sales program, selling small items to patrons, and oversee the lost and found program, ensuring items are properly documented and returned or stored as appropriate.
Night audit procedures and credit card machine closures are part of the nightly responsibilities, requiring attention to detail and accuracy. Providing excellent customer service and ensuring guest satisfaction are paramount, as the role involves direct interaction with a diverse range of guests including military members and civilians.
Candidates must be U.S. citizens, nationals, or those owing allegiance to the United States, meeting specific residency and age requirements. The position requires completion of a background investigation and adherence to security guidelines, including proper identification for base access. Experience in clerical or cashier roles demonstrating multitasking, problem-solving with arithmetic skills, and customer service excellence is essential. Fluency in English is required for written and verbal communication. The role does not allow education substitution for experience but values relevant practical experience, including volunteer work.
This opportunity offers a chance to contribute to the efficiency of federal government services in a unique military setting, supporting the comfort and welfare of service members and their families while upholding the highest standards of professionalism and integrity.
