The Guest Services Host is a vital position within this department, designed for individuals who thrive in dynamic healthcare environments and who possess excellent interpersonal and de-escalation skills. This relief, variable-shift role offers a typical pay range between $20.51 and $26.25 per hour, reflecting its importance in delivering exceptional guest support. The primary function of the Guest Services Host is to extend a warm and professional welcome to all guests at various St. Charles Health System locations, including the Emergency Department, Heart and Lung Center, the main hospital entrances, and the Center building adjacent to the Bend hospital.

A Guest Services Host must have comprehensive knowledge of the healthcare system's campus, including its organizational structure, to assist guests effectively. Using electronic medical record (EMR) systems, the host looks up patient information while strictly adhering to HIPAA protocols to protect privacy. Responsibilities include escorting patients, visitors, and family members to rooms and departments and helping with wayfinding to ensure smooth navigation within the healthcare facilities. The role also involves driving the St. Charles Health System shuttle, further emphasizing the host’s contribution to enhancing accessibility and convenience for guests.

The ideal candidate for this role will have at least one year of experience in direct customer service, preferably within hospitality or healthcare settings, and may possess additional certifications such as CPR and AED. They must be physically capable of assisting guests who require mobility support, including pushing wheelchairs, sometimes accommodating weights of up to 250 pounds. The position demands working both indoors and outdoors while maintaining cleanliness and safety in surrounding areas.

Beyond providing excellent customer service, the Guest Services Host supports the hospital’s vision, mission, and values by promoting continuous improvement principles and acting ethically and confidentially. They are trained to identify and respond appropriately to guests’ needs, including those requiring special assistance, while facilitating communication among departments to ensure consistency and accuracy of information.

Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED
  • One year of experience in a direct customer service position
  • Ability to wear personal protective equipment
  • Physical ability to continually stand and walk, frequently sit, bend, stoop, kneel, crouch, climb stairs and occasionally lift or push weights up to 50 pounds
  • Ability to operate a motor vehicle
  • Comply with HIPAA requirements
  • Availability for variable shifts including weekends and holidays

Job Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED
  • One year of experience in a direct customer service position
  • Preferably coursework in Behavioral Sciences
  • Preferably CPR and AED certification
  • Prior experience in Hospitality Services preferred
  • Ability to adhere to HIPAA regulations
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills

Job Duties

  • Welcomes guests to St. Charles Health System facilities
  • Provides the highest level of quality, proactive service to guests ensuring their needs are met with warmth and friendly assistance
  • Greets guests, provides personal attention to the guests’ needs, responds to requests for information or assistance, and resolves concerns
  • Proactively seeks out opportunities to meet or exceed the expectations of the guests by initiating contact with guests to identify and address questions, concerns, or assistance required
  • Answers the guest services phone and provides service as requested
  • Gives accurate information and directions to patients, visitors, and family members
  • Provides brochures, written directions, and maps when necessary
  • Complies with all HIPAA requirements
  • Identifies guests who may require some special form of assistance and ensures their needs are met
  • Arranges for personal assistance as needed including escorts and transportation
  • Facilitates escort services for guests
  • Maintains supply and organization of wheelchairs
  • Maintains current knowledge base of all services in the hospital, Heart Center and region
  • Maintains continuous communication with all departments, supervisor, caregivers, and physicians to ensure accuracy of information given out
  • Maintains cleanliness of surrounding area internally and externally
  • Supports the vision, mission and values of the organization in all respects
  • Supports Value Improvement Practice (VIP- Lean) principles of continuous improvement with energy and enthusiasm, functioning as a champion of change
  • Provides and maintains a safe environment for caregivers, patients and guests
  • Conducts all activities with the highest standards of professionalism and confidentiality
  • Delivers customer service and/or patient care in a manner that promotes goodwill, is timely, efficient and accurate
  • May perform additional duties of similar complexity within the organization, as required or assigned
