The Guest Services Host role is essential within the Guest and Volunteer Services Department at St. Charles Healthcare Community. This relief position offers a variable schedule with hourly pay ranging from $18.75 to $21.84, depending on experience. Reporting directly to the Guest and Volunteer Services Manager, the successful candidate will serve at multiple St. Charles sites, including hospitals and specialized centers, contributing significantly to a welcoming and supportive environment. The Guest Service Host acts as the first point of contact for guests, ensuring a warm and professional welcome while assisting with directions, patient escort, and shuttle services. Key to this role is the ability to use de-escalation skills effectively when managing demanding situations, along with a strong understanding of HIPAA protocols and electronic medical records (EMR) systems.
The responsibilities span from greeting guests, responding to inquiries with kindness and efficiency, to providing personal assistance for guests with special needs. The role also requires physical capabilities, such as the ability to assist patients in wheelchairs, maintain wheelchair availability, and facilitate the overall accessibility within the healthcare environment. This position fosters continuous communication with caregivers and various departments to maintain the accuracy of information and contribute to a safe and clean environment for all. It also upholds the organizational mission and values by supporting continuous improvement principles through the Value Improvement Practice (VIP) - Lean. Job Requirements
- High school diploma or GED
- One year of experience in a direct customer service position
- Must be able to wear appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) required to perform the job safely
- Ability to stand and walk for 75 percent or more of the time
- Ability to lift, carry, push or pull up to 50 pounds
- Valid driver’s license and ability to operate a motor vehicle
- Ability to use clear and audible speaking voice and hear normal speech levels
- Willingness to work variable shifts including weekends and holidays
- Ability to comply with HIPAA requirements and confidentiality policies
- Ability to work safely in environments with exposure to heat, cold, wet/slippery areas, noise, dust, and chemical solutions
- Ability to maintain continuous communication with various departments and staff
- Ability to maintain cleanliness and organization of assigned areas
- Ability to support organizational values and continuous improvement practices.
Job Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED
- One year of experience in a direct customer service position
- Prior experience in hospitality services
- Coursework in behavioral sciences preferred
- CPR and AED certification preferred
- Knowledge of EMR systems and HIPAA protocols
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills
- Ability to handle difficult situations using de-escalation techniques
- Ability to push patients in wheelchairs
- Ability to operate a motor vehicle safely
- Commitment to maintaining confidentiality and professionalism
- Ability to work flexible hours including weekends and holidays.
Job Duties
- Welcomes guests to St. Charles Health System facilities
- Provides the highest level of quality, proactive service to guests ensuring their needs are met with warmth and friendly assistance
- Greets guests, provides personal attention to the guests' needs, responds to requests for information or assistance, and resolves concerns
- Proactively seeks out opportunities to meet or exceed the expectations of the guests by initiating contact with guests to identify and address questions, concerns, or assistance required
- Answers the guest services phone and provides service as requested
- Gives accurate information and directions to patients, visitors, and family members
- Provides brochures, written directions, and maps when necessary
- Complies with all HIPAA requirements
- Identifies guests who may require some special form of assistance and ensures their needs are met
- Frequently pushes patients in wheelchairs
- Arranges for personal assistance as needed including escorts and transportation
- Facilitates escort services for guests
- Maintains supply and organization of wheelchairs
- Maintains current knowledge base of all services in the hospital, Heart Center and region
- Maintains continuous communication with all departments, supervisor, caregivers, and physicians to ensure accuracy of information given out
- Maintains cleanliness of surrounding area internally and externally
- Supports the vision, mission and values of the organization in all respects
- Supports Value Improvement Practice (VIP- Lean) principles of continuous improvement with energy and enthusiasm
- Provides and maintains a safe environment for caregivers, patients and guests
- Conducts all activities with the highest standards of professionalism and confidentiality
- Complies with all applicable laws, regulations, policies and procedures
- Delivers customer service and/or patient care in a timely, efficient and accurate manner
- May perform additional duties of similar complexity within the organization, as required or assigned.
