The role of the Guest Room Dining Server at BHC is central to delivering a five-star guest experience in the hotel’s room service division. This position requires adherence to hotel specifications and standards in maintaining the highest possible service quality. The primary responsibility is to ensure quick, efficient, and professional room service dining experiences for guests. The Guest Room Dining Server is expected to understand and execute all room service procedures, including preparing, delivering, and servicing in-room dining orders with precision and care. This involves preparing visually appealing trays or carts, ensuring all items are complete and clean, and delivering food and beverages promptly within established room service standards.

In this role, the server sets up dining trays or carts according to guest preferences, providing any necessary accompaniments or condiments to guarantee satisfaction. Additionally, the server promptly collects used trays, carts, or dishes from guest rooms, hallways, or service areas, maintaining cleanliness and order in assigned stations and storage spaces. The Guest Room Dining Server also follows rigorous hotel sanitation standards for food and beverage items and practices safe food handling to ensure guest safety and compliance with health regulations.

To perform effectively, candidates must possess strong communication skills, including the ability to read, write, and speak the primary language used in communication with guests and colleagues. Basic computer knowledge and familiarity with POS systems are essential. The role demands solid knowledge of table settings, service ware, menu items, prices, preparation methods, and suggestive selling techniques to encourage guests to choose house specialties. The position requires prior hospitality or food and beverage experience and the ability to manage physical demands such as lifting heavy items, pushing carts, and standing for extended periods. The Guest Room Dining Server is an integral part of the hotel’s team committed to creating memorable guest experiences through attentive and professional service.

Job Requirements

  • Must be able to speak, read, write and understand the primary language used in communication with guests, suppliers, and colleagues
  • Must be able to read and write to facilitate the communication process
  • Must possess basic computer skills
  • Must have complete knowledge of POS system
  • Knowledge of appropriate table settings and service ware
  • Ability to describe all menu items, prices and methods of preparation
  • Must have complete knowledge of products and specifications outlined in the dinner menu
  • Must be able to lift equipment, supplies, etc. of at least 30 lbs. on a regular and continuing basis
  • Must be able to push and pull carts and equipment weighing up to 75 lbs. frequently
  • Must be able to stand and exert well-paced mobility for 8 hours in length
  • Talking and hearing continuously in the process of communicating with guests, supervisors and subordinates
  • Vision occurring continuously with near vision and depth perception

Job Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Good communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Basic computer skills including knowledge of POS system
  • Knowledge of appropriate table settings and service ware
  • Ability to describe menu items, prices and methods of preparation
  • Prior hospitality and/or food and beverage experience preferred

Job Duties

  • Understand completely all programs, procedures, standards, specifications, guidelines and training programs
  • Consistently follow steps of service in preparing, delivering, and servicing orders
  • Prepare in-room dining trays or carts, ensuring all items are complete, clean, and visually appealing
  • Deliver food and beverages promptly to guest rooms, following the established room service standards
  • Set up trays, carts, or tables as per guest preference, ensuring a welcoming presentation and providing any necessary accompaniments or condiments
  • Collect used trays, carts, or dishes promptly from guest rooms, hallways, or service areas
  • Maintain cleanliness and order in designated room service stations and storage areas
  • Follow hotel sanitation standards for food and beverage items and practice safe food handling
  • Restock service items and maintain adequate supplies of trays, condiments, utensils, and other necessities
