Job Description

The City of Thornton is a vibrant and growing community that prides itself on delivering exceptional services and experiences to its residents and visitors alike. As a city facility operator, Thornton provides a wide range of amenities, programs, and events to ensure that community members can engage, enjoy, and benefit from local resources. Recognized for its commitment to excellent customer service and operational efficiency, the city continuously seeks to maintain welcoming environments where patrons feel valued and supported. The City of Thornton employs dedicated professionals who manage day-to-day operations, ensuring that policies are followed and facilities remain safe, clean, and accessible for everyone. During the peak season from May through September, the city operates various recreational and community facilities that serve thousands of visitors on weekends. These facilities require reliable and efficient staff members capable of managing front desk operations, handling cash transactions, and providing information and assistance to guests, enhancing the overall patron experience.

This position is a seasonal, part-time role principally working on Saturdays and Sundays, designed for individuals who can deliver excellent front desk service under general supervision. The role primarily involves performing cashier and receptionist duties, including controlling facility admissions, managing reservations, scheduling rooms, and assisting with program registrations during peak demand. Candidates for this position must be comfortable with cash handling procedures aligned with city policies, operating cash registers, and balancing daily cash drawers. The individual must also possess strong communication skills to interact effectively with guests in person and via telephone, promoting programs and enforcing facility policies. Responsibility for observing guest behavior, reporting improper facility or equipment use, and maintaining accurate records forms an integral part of the role. The position may also involve opening and closing shifts and potentially mentoring newer clerks, contributing to a collaborative and efficient team environment. The City of Thornton emphasizes inclusivity, customer satisfaction, and operational excellence in this role, ensuring all patrons have positive and seamless experiences when visiting city facilities. Candidates will undergo a comprehensive selection process that may include application reviews, written and oral assessments, and background investigations. Successful employees are expected to adhere to all city policies, including those related to cash handling and facility use, while promoting a safe and welcoming environment for all visitors.
