The role of a Guest Advocate at Target is an essential customer-facing position that emphasizes providing outstanding guest service through building engaging, helpful interactions. Guest Advocates serve as the frontline ambassadors of Target's exceptional service culture by welcoming guests, addressing their questions and concerns, and ensuring a smooth and positive shopping experience. This role combines interpersonal communication with operational tasks such as managing checkout transactions efficiently, promoting store loyalty programs, and facilitating digital services like the Target App, online ordering, and various pick-up options. As a Guest Advocate, you will be responsible for scanning and bagging guest items while adhering to company standards for accuracy and food safety, maintaining cleanliness and safety at your work area, and supporting services such as Order Pick-Up and Drive Up.

Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule including nights, weekends, holidays, and peak shopping times
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Physical ability to lift/move merchandise up to 44 pounds occasionally and up to 10 pounds frequently
  • Ability to remain mobile for the duration of a shift
  • Willingness to follow safety policies and procedures
  • Positive attitude and willingness to learn
  • No previous retail experience required but preferred

  • Communicating effectively, including using positive language and attentive to guests needs
  • Welcoming and helpful attitude toward guests and other team members
  • Attention to detail while prioritizing tasks
  • Willing to educate guests and engage around products and services
  • Ability to communicate on multiple frequency devices and operate handheld scanners and other technology equipment as directed
  • Work both independently and with a team
  • Capability to remain focused and composed in a fast-paced environment and accomplish multiple tasks within established timeframes
  • Experience in customer service preferred
  • Basic math and computer skills

Job Duties

  • Demonstrate a service culture that prioritizes the guest service experience by delivering the service standard
  • Create a welcoming experience by greeting guests while completing daily tasks
  • Engage with guests in a welcoming way to help solve their specific needs
  • Make the guest aware of current promotions, store activities and events
  • Be knowledgeable about the tools, products, and services available to solve issues for the guest and improve their experience
  • Thank guests and let them know we are happy they chose to shop at Target
  • Know and speak to the benefits of Target Loyalty programs with every guest and assist with application or sign-up as needed
  • Scan and bag all guest items efficiently, accurately and in compliance with food safety standards and company best practices
  • Work efficiently to minimize guest wait time while maintaining guest service and accuracy
  • Understand and show guests how to use the features and offerings within the Target App including Wallet
  • Be familiar with Order Pick-Up, Drive Up and online ordering, and know how to direct the guest to enroll, activate and use these features
  • Attempt every return and follow register prompts
  • partner with immediate Leaders as needed to help solve for the guest while following Target's policies and procedures
  • Maintain a clean, clutter free work area by gathering unpurchased items, baskets, and hangers for removal
  • Stock supplies during store open hours while being available for the guest
  • Demonstrate a culture of ethical conduct, safety and compliance
  • Work in a safe manner at all times
  • comply with all safety policies, best practices, and training
  • report hazards and correct where possible
  • Support guest services such as order pick up (OPU), Drive-up (DU) Orders, DU Returns and maintain a compliance culture while executing those duties, such as compliance with federal, state, and local adult beverage laws
  • Perform all other duties based on business needs
