Guest Advocates are the face of Target to shoppers, responsible for greeting guests, addressing inquiries, facilitating smooth transactions, and promoting Target's digital and in-store services.

A typical day for a Guest Advocate involves a blend of customer service, problem-solving, and operational tasks. They play a key role in ensuring that every guest leaves the store with a positive impression by offering helpful assistance, guiding them on loyalty programs, explaining store promotions, and maintaining clean and organized work areas. This position requires adaptability to meet various guest needs and the ability to work in different areas of the store, including checklanes, guest services, and pickup points. The role also involves scanning and bagging items efficiently while adhering to Target’s food safety standards and company best practices.

Guest Advocates must be knowledgeable about Target's app features, order pickup, and drive-up services, assisting guests in utilizing these convenient shopping options. Additionally, the role includes handling returns, managing compliance with legal requirements such as adult beverage laws, and supporting order pickup and drive-up operations. Teamwork, ethical conduct, and safety compliance are integral components of the job, contributing to an overall culture of excellence within the store.

Job Requirements

  • Accurately handle checkout operations and transactions
  • support cash office operations as needed
  • scan, handle, and move merchandise safely including lifting up to 44 pounds
  • maintain reliable and prompt attendance
  • remain mobile for the duration of scheduled shifts
  • be capable of working in varying temperatures and humidity conditions
  • open to flexible work schedule including nights, weekends, and holidays

Job Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • previous retail or customer service experience preferred
  • effective communication skills including use of positive language
  • ability to work independently and with a team
  • attention to detail while prioritizing tasks
  • willingness to educate guests and engage around products and services
  • capability to operate handheld scanners and multi-frequency communication devices
  • ability to remain focused and composed in a fast-paced environment

Job Duties

  • Demonstrate a service culture that prioritizes the guest service experience by delivering the service standard
  • create a welcoming experience by greeting guests while completing daily tasks
  • engage with guests in a welcoming way to help solve their specific needs
  • make the guest aware of current promos, store activities and events
  • be knowledgeable about the tools, products, and services available in the store to solve issues for the guest and improve their experience
  • thank guests and let them know we are happy they chose to shop at Target
  • know and speak to the benefits of Target loyalty programs and assist with application or sign-up as needed
  • scan and bag all guest items efficiently, accurately, and in compliance with safety standards
  • work efficiently to minimize guest wait time while maintaining guest service and accuracy
  • understand and show guests how to use features within the Target App including Wallet
  • be familiar with order pick-up, drive-up and online ordering and direct guests to enroll and use these features
  • attempt every return and follow register prompts while partnering with leaders to solve guest issues
  • maintain a clean, clutter-free work area
  • stock supplies during store open hours while being available for guests
  • demonstrate a culture of ethical conduct, safety and compliance
  • work in a safe manner at all times and comply with safety policies
  • support guest services such as order pick up, drive-up orders and maintain compliance
  • perform other duties based on business needs
