Job Requirements
- Physical stamina and strength to lift, carry, push, pull, and move items 70 pounds or more regularly
- Ability to carry heavy items up and down narrow jetway stairs
- Capacity to walk, climb, bend, kneel, crawl, stoop frequently and for extended periods
- Ability to work in cramped or high places
- Alertness to moving vehicles or aircraft and use of radio equipment to communicate effectively
- Willingness to work outdoors in all weather conditions and noisy environments
- Good communication skills to coordinate with flight crew and ground teams
- Basic math skills for weight and balance calculations
- Computer skills for tracking cargo and baggage
- Strong problem-solving abilities and time management skills to work efficiently in a fast-paced setting
Job Qualifications
- Be at least 18 years of age
- Possess a high school diploma, GED, or equivalent work experience
- Hold a valid driver’s license with a clean driving record
- Have authorization to work in the United States or Canada as applicable
- Complete ramp and SIDA training to obtain airport authority identification security
- Ability to secure a Customs Seal if required
- Preferred one or more years of relevant experience
Job Duties
- Guide inbound/outbound airplanes to and from the gate
- Transport, lift, load/unload, sort and transfer passenger baggage, cargo, and mail material in and out of aircraft bins, belt loader, or baggage carts in a safe manner
- Safeguard customer baggage, air cargo, airmail from weather, loss, theft, damage and/or destruction
- Clean aircraft passenger cabins between flights and stock aircraft with needed supplies
- Operate heavy equipment such as pushback equipment and maintain visual contact with Wing Walkers to ensure the equipment is free of any danger
- Operate and/or drive motorized equipment, such as belt loaders, air start units, lift trucks, push back tugs, bag cart, lavatory cart, and deicers
- Receive and record customer baggage, air freight, mail, and company materials as required
- Pick up, deliver, and transport cargo and baggage to and from aircraft, which could include wheelchairs, strollers, live animals, and other vital property of passengers
- Complete paperwork and forms connected with work assignments and enter data into the company's information system as required
- Follow company procedures and protocols to ensure safe and responsible operations
- Complete all required training by company, airport authority, or customers
- Be willing to work flexible hours including nights, weekends, and holidays
