Job Description

Giant Eagle is a renowned supermarket chain committed to enriching local communities by providing high-quality products, exceptional customer service, and great everyday value. With its strong foundation in the grocery market, Giant Eagle stands apart through a culture of care, compassion, and respect among its team members and customers alike. The company is dedicated to nourishing life’s moments, big and small, by leading the way in food quality, service excellence, and community engagement. As a well-established and growing brand, Giant Eagle not only focuses on customer satisfaction but also emphasizes the professional growth and well-being of its associates, creating a supportive and inclusive environment where employees can thrive and contribute meaningfully.

The Gourmet Chef position at Giant Eagle plays a critical role in the day-to-day operations of the Central Kitchen and Market District. This role is ideal for culinary professionals with 3 to 5 years of experience who are passionate about food preparation, food quality, and excellent customer service. Gourmet Chefs are directly responsible for maintaining the highest standards of food safety, merchandising, and associate education regarding food products. They serve as leaders in culinary education for their peers and customers, constantly working to promote product knowledge and increase profitability. This position demands a commitment to a safe and clean working environment as well as the ability to manage inventory and minimize waste effectively.

Successful candidates will be comfortable working collaboratively with other kitchen and department managers to ensure efficient inventory management and accurate documentation of daily activities and monthly inventory processes. They actively engage in suggestive selling techniques and offer product sampling to encourage customer interaction and sales growth. This role requires adherence to strict recipe guidelines and company merchandising standards to ensure consistency and quality across food production.

In addition to the vital culinary duties, this position requires physical capability to handle lifting up to 50 pounds and a Serv-Safe Certification is considered a valuable asset. Although an associate’s degree is the desired education level, advanced culinary degrees, and food safety awareness, along with culinary awards or accreditation, are highly regarded. The Gourmet Chef is an integral member of the Giant Eagle culinary team, contributing not only to daily operations but also to fostering a culture of safety and continuous learning. This employment opportunity offers a chance to build a meaningful career in a supportive community where professional development and growth are highly encouraged.
