Job Description
Goodwill is a renowned nonprofit organization dedicated to improving lives through the power of work. With retail stores across various locations, Goodwill offers a unique shopping experience by selling donated goods that are both affordable and environmentally friendly, encouraging recycling and community support. Each store operates as a crucial part of the organization's mission to help individuals find employment and gain vital skills through job training and placement services. Goodwill’s retail operations serve as both a revenue source and a community resource, emphasizing responsible business practices and charitable efforts.
The role of Store Clerk/Cashier at Goodwill is a foundational position within the retail store that combines customer service, sales processing, and merchandise management. This position is integral to ensuring an efficient and positive shopping environment. Store Clerks are responsible for handling a range of tasks—from operating cash registers and processing sales transactions including cash and card payments, to assisting customers in their purchases and responding to inquiries. Additionally, Store Clerks play a key role in the organization and upkeep of the sales floor by stocking shelves, organizing racks and displays, tagging and pricing donated merchandise, and maintaining a clean and orderly store environment.
Beyond the typical cashier functions, these employees may also assist with the operational flow by accepting donations, sorting and preparing these donated items for sale, ensuring that merchandise is priced and presented attractively, and supporting store procedures for handling donations and sales processing. The position offers a competitive pay range of 13 to 17 dollars per hour with possibilities for overtime, weekend shifts, holiday pay, and performance-based raises, all of which may vary depending on location and experience.
Full-time Store Clerks have opportunities to benefit from a comprehensive package that may include health insurance, dental and vision coverage, paid time off, retirement savings plans, employee discounts, and chances for career advancement into supervisory and management roles. This makes the position not only a great entry point but also a long-term career option in retail within a values-driven organization committed to making a difference. Store Clerks contribute directly to the store’s success and to Goodwill's larger mission of creating community impact and providing valuable services to those in need.
