The company’s mission is centered around making everyday life joyful for families by delivering products that meet their needs with value, quality, and style. Target is distinguished by its strong culture and values, focusing on inclusivity, community involvement, and team member development. Working at Target means becoming part of a team that prioritizes guest satisfaction, operational excellence, and continuous innovation to enhance the retail experience.
The General Merchandise Expert role at Target is a dynamic position within the General Merchandise and Food Sales team, focused on maintaining store process efficiency and ensuring an outstanding shopping environment. This hourly role starts at a competitive rate of $18.25 USD per hour and offers an excellent opportunity for individuals looking to build retail skills and advance their careers. General Merchandise Experts play a crucial role in maintaining product availability, accurate pricing, and overall merchandise presentation on the sales floor. They are responsible for inbound and outbound merchandise processes, replenishment, promotional signing, and inventory accuracy across all General Merchandise (GM) areas in the store. This role also involves supporting pick, pack, and ship fulfillment tasks to create a seamless shopping experience for guests.
Roles in this position demand adaptability and a proactive approach, as daily tasks can vary widely. Typical duties include greeting guests to create a welcoming atmosphere, assisting customers with their needs, performing stocking and restocking duties, organizing back rooms, managing product prices, maintaining merchandise integrity, and contributing to inventory control measures. If certified, individuals may operate power equipment to move merchandise or store fixtures safely. General Merchandise Experts also learn how operational procedures impact inventory management, store profitability, and guest satisfaction.
Candidates for this role should be comfortable working in a fast-paced, physically active environment that requires teamwork, flexibility, and problem-solving skills. The role offers extensive training to build knowledge in retail fundamentals including sales trends, inventory replenishment, and process improvement. General Merchandise Experts are encouraged to demonstrate a culture of ethical conduct, safety compliance, and effective communication.
Target values diversity and inclusion and provides competitive benefits for its team members, including financial, educational, and well-being programs. The company is an equal opportunity employer and complies with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) by offering reasonable accommodations throughout the application process. This role is ideal for individuals who enjoy interacting with guests and teammates, thrive under varied schedules including nights, weekends, and holidays, and desire to grow within a reputable retail organization. Applications for this position are accepted continuously, reflecting Target’s ongoing commitment to expanding its talented team of retail professionals.
