Target’s corporate culture emphasizes community care, fostering growth opportunities for its associates, and a team-centric work environment where everyone succeeds together. The brand values its purpose, which is deeply rooted in how they work, how they grow, and how they care, making it a desirable workplace for individuals seeking meaningful career development in retail.

The General Merchandise Expert role at Target is a pivotal position within the store’s operational framework. This role is part of the General Merchandise and Food Sales team responsible for maintaining the high standards of product presentation, stock availability, pricing accuracy, and promotional signage in all General Merchandise areas. The expert ensures that customers enjoy a seamless shopping experience by managing inventory processes such as inbound, outbound, replenishment, and accurate stock counts, while also supporting food safety and fresh product handling where applicable.

Working as a General Merchandise Expert means engaging directly with guests to provide an authentic and welcoming experience, understanding their needs through attentive observation and communication, and delivering knowledgeable assistance regarding the store’s products and services. The role requires a strong focus on operational efficiency, expertise in retail business fundamentals like sales trends and inventory management, and the ability to execute multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment. Daily activities range from floor zone management and product replenishment to compliance with safety and operational standards, making this a dynamic and versatile position.

This role offers more than just a retail job; it is an opportunity to build and develop critical skills such as guest service excellence, process management, and team collaboration. Target provides comprehensive training that equips team members with all necessary tools to excel as General Merchandise Experts. This position requires flexibility to work various shifts including nights, weekends, and holidays, and involves physical tasks such as ladder climbing and merchandise handling. The starting hourly rate is $16.00 USD, reflecting Target’s commitment to providing competitive compensation.

Overall, the General Merchandise Expert role at Target is ideal for individuals who enjoy working in energetic team environments, value delivering exceptional service, and are motivated by hands-on, impactful work that supports the customer journey from stocking to checkout.
