Job Description

This job posting is for a General Manager position at a McDonald’s restaurant operated by an independent franchisee rather than McDonald’s USA itself. This franchisee holds a license to use McDonald’s logos and food products but is an entirely separate company and employer. The franchisee is solely responsible for all employment matters at the restaurant, including hiring, firing, staffing, scheduling, and supervision. McDonald’s USA does not influence or make decisions related to employment in this restaurant. As such, the applicant will be employed directly by the franchisee and not McDonald’s USA.

This General Manager role is a key leadership position tasked with operating a profitable restaurant while ensuring the restaurant meets McDonald’s high standards of quality, service, and cleanliness. These standards are rigorous, and meeting them requires a focused and committed leader. The General Manager works closely with their leader to develop the restaurant’s goals and then creates actionable plans to meet or exceed those goals. This leadership role includes managing a team of Department Managers who oversee different functional areas within the restaurant. The General Manager is responsible for guiding these Department Managers by setting their goals, monitoring their progress, coaching their development, and helping improve overall departmental performance. Successfully enhancing the performance of these departments directly improves the restaurant’s results.

An important responsibility of the General Manager includes recruiting and nurturing Management talent within the restaurant. This involves hiring, training, and developing both Department and Shift Managers to build a strong leadership pipeline that supports the restaurant’s ongoing success. This position demands excellent leadership skills, effective communication, and a dedication to fostering a positive, motivated workplace.

Ideal candidates will have previous experience running high volume restaurants, particularly in the quick service dining industry, or related experience in hospitality or retail. Candidates must be at least 18 years or older to be eligible to manage corporate-owned McDonald’s outlets.

Aside from competitive pay, McDonald’s Corporate owned restaurants offer General Managers a comprehensive range of benefits, including between 15 to 25 days of paid vacation, 10 paid holidays, an anniversary splash, and an 8-week sabbatical every 10 years. There are robust educational opportunities through Archways to Opportunity, which offer a pathway to earn a high school diploma, college tuition assistance, and English as a second language classes. General Managers also benefit from medical, dental, and vision coverage, pre-tax flexible spending accounts, and short- and long-term disability insurance, as well as life and accident insurance. Additional benefits include paid leaves of absence, service awards, access to an Employee Resource Connection, adoption assistance, and a charitable matching gifts program.

This job description highlights the general expectations and requirements of the General Manager role but does not list every essential function. Working at a McDonald’s restaurant involves a variety of responsibilities that adapt to the day-to-day restaurant environment. Applicants should acknowledge that employment decisions and processes are managed exclusively by the independent franchisee. Any information provided through the application process will be confidentially handled by the franchisee, not McDonald’s USA. Prospective employees should contact the franchisee directly to inquire about specific privacy policies and employment practices.
