The role of General Manager (GM) at Thorntons is pivotal in maintaining the high standards and performance targets set forth by the company. The GM is responsible for managing all facets of store operations including guest satisfaction, team development, financial oversight, inventory control, and ensuring a clean and safe workplace. By leading a staffed, stable, and scheduled team, the GM ensures a consistent and enjoyable shopping experience for guests that aligns with Thorntons' Plan to Win strategy. This includes delivering craveable food and beverage offerings within a food-safe environment, enhancing the company’s financial outcomes year-over-year. The GM also plays a key role in fostering a positive team environment by focusing on training, coaching, and recognizing team members while promoting a culture that prioritizes safety, with the overarching goal of Believing in Zero accidents.
In this leadership position, the General Manager must excel at balancing operational demands with people management, showing a commitment to leading by example and a hands-on approach. Job Requirements
- High school diploma or GED
- Minimum three years single-unit management experience in retail and/or food and beverage industries
- Food safety and handling certifications preferred or ability to obtain one
- Must have reliable transportation
- Valid driver's license preferred
- Ability to climb ladders and perform physical tasks including standing, pushing, pulling, reaching, bending, squatting, climbing, walking, lifting up to 55 lbs
- Exposure to extreme weather conditions, gasoline fumes, and cleaning products
- Regular and predictable in-person attendance
- Ability to train and empower team members
- Commitment to safety and guest satisfaction culture
Job Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED
- Minimum three years single-unit management experience in retail and/or food and beverage industries
- Experience with PeopleMatter, Workday, Reflexis, PDI, ESO applications a plus
- Food safety and handling certification preferred or ability to obtain one
- Strong leadership and communication skills
- Analytical skills for problem solving and financial report interpretation
- Ability to motivate and develop team members
- Effective conflict resolution and active listening skills
- Commitment to safety and cleanliness standards
- Knowledge of guest service principles and personnel training methods
Job Duties
- Drive a safety culture by ensuring a clean, organized, and safe environment for all Team Members and Guests
- Create a place of welcoming and belonging for Guests and Team Members
- Oversee the daily execution of Store Operating System to deliver a consistent Guest/brand experience and achieve performance targets
- Grow top line P&L performance and control key financial lines
- Track and manage inventory through count execution and accurate order submissions
- Delegate tasks to subordinate Team Members and ensure proper completion
- Engage and lead company initiatives
- Oversee food production to meet food safety requirements and maintain par levels
- Develop well trained Team Members by following training processes and teaching core values
- Support and guide team members through career path, holding them accountable through coaching
- Recruit, interview, hire and schedule Team Members ensuring adequate coverage and compliance with meal and rest breaks
- Train and empower Team Members to de-escalate guest service issues
- Communicate with Team Members positively to motivate and inspire according to Plan to Win strategy
- Comply with all federal, state, and local inspectors by taking action and maintaining records
- Promote sales and profits by partnering with local community events
- Maintain regular and predictable in-person attendance
- Perform additional duties as assigned
