In this role, you will champion animal health and safety, ensuring that all Petco standards and ethical policies are consistently exceeded. Business ownership involves driving sales growth, profitability, managing payroll and expenses, executing merchandise and inventory strategies, and actively representing Petco in the local community through initiatives and partnerships. This leadership position requires strong financial acumen, operational expertise, and a genuine passion for pets and customers.
The work environment is fast-paced and dynamic, primarily conducted in a retail Pet Care Center. The General Manager is expected to be a visible presence on the sales floor, leading by example and engaging directly with team members, customers, and pets. The role demands physical involvement, including standing, walking, lifting up to 50 pounds safely, and occasional participation in community and corporate events. Full-time availability with flexibility for evenings, weekends, and holidays is essential.

Job Requirements
- high school diploma or GED preferred
- 3+ years of management experience (retail leadership preferred)
- strong people leadership, coaching, and talent development skills
- solid business, financial, and operational acumen
- excellent communication, problem-solving, and organizational abilities
- a genuine passion for pets and customer service
- ability to work flexible hours including evenings, weekends, and holidays
- ability to lift and move merchandise, supplies, or animals weighing up to 50 pounds
- willingness to engage regularly on the sales floor and participate in community events
- capability to work in proximity to animals including exposure to animal dander, odors, noises, and cleaning chemicals
- ability to travel occasionally for training or meetings
Job Qualifications
- 3+ years of management experience (retail leadership preferred)
- strong people leadership, coaching, and talent development skills
- solid business, financial, and operational acumen
- excellent communication, problem-solving, and organizational abilities
- a genuine passion for pets and customer service
- high school diploma or GED preferred
- completion of Petco leadership development programs may be required for internal candidates
