Job Description
Eataly is the world’s largest artisanal Italian food and beverage marketplace, offering an immersive and authentic Italian culinary experience. Unlike a chain, each Eataly location is unique, reflecting its own character and theme, but all operate with the same mission: to provide guests with exceptional Italian food at restaurants, cafes, and to-go counters; to offer a carefully curated selection of high-quality Italian, local, and homemade products for shopping; and to educate customers through immersive classes and the deep product knowledge of its dedicated team. This distinctive marketplace marries the spirit of Italy’s rich culinary culture with a passion for premium, seasonal ingredients, making it a destination for gourmands and casual diners alike.
Eataly’s restaurants feature multiple full-service, sit-down venues where authentic Italian dishes such as meat, seafood, pasta, pizza, and street food are prepared with the highest standards. These locations emphasize quality, seasonal produce, and the tradition behind each recipe, allowing guests to enjoy Italy’s diverse flavours in a welcoming, vibrant atmosphere.
The role of General Manager of Restaurants at Eataly is a pivotal leadership position responsible for directing front-of-house operations across all restaurants within an Eataly marketplace. Reporting directly to the Director of Store Operations, the General Manager oversees a team of Restaurant Assistant General Managers and is entrusted with maintaining operational excellence, profitability, and the guest experience while upholding Eataly’s mission and values. This full-time onsite position demands a hands-on, strategic leader who can balance day-to-day management tasks with long-term operational planning.
Key duties include organizing and directing the restaurant operations to optimize profitability, setting and driving departmental goals, and fostering collaboration across multiple teams. The General Manager provides vital support in employee hiring, training, payroll management, and staff evaluations, ensuring a motivated, well-trained team that embodies Eataly’s dedication to quality and service. They also manage inventory needs, including requisitioning and checking orders for food, beverage, supplies, and equipment, guaranteeing standards are met. Problem resolution is a critical part of the role, as the General Manager investigates and addresses both employee and guest concerns promptly and effectively.
This role demands exceptional communication skills, leadership, and organizational acumen coupled with a deep understanding of business management within a high-volume, fast-paced restaurant environment. Experience with Italian cuisine and wine is highly preferred to maintain authenticity and deliver an educational experience for guests. This position often requires flexibility, including evenings, weekends, holidays, and some travel.
Eataly prides itself on providing a respectful and inclusive workplace, committed to equal employment opportunities and adherence to all laws protecting applicants and employees. The company also offers competitive benefits, including medical, dental, and vision insurance; paid time off and parental leave; 401K with match or RRSP; bonus programs; free family meals; discounts; and educational classes on products and Italian cuisine, making it a great place for career development in the hospitality industry.
