Job Description

Advanced Aquarium Technologies (AAT) is a globally recognized leader specializing in the design, construction, and operation of iconic public aquariums. AAT's expertise spans aquarium operations, animal husbandry, specialized maintenance, and capital works. The company operates with headquarters in Queensland, Australia, and the USA headquarters based in Houston, Texas, supporting facilities worldwide with leading-edge solutions and operational excellence.

Currently, AAT seeks a seasoned General Manager for one of its premier projects, the Aquarium of Guam, located in the heart of Tumon, near Hagåtña on the U.S. Territory island of Guam. The Aquarium of Guam is a vital tourism and community asset undergoing a transformative multi-million dollar refurbishment, scheduled to reopen in the latter half of 2026. This renewal aims to establish the Aquarium as the crown jewel of Guam’s tourism, celebrating the island’s unique aquatic ecosystems — ranging from freshwater streams and mangroves to seagrass meadows and coral reefs.

The General Manager role is a permanent, full-time, on-site leadership position based in Guam, an idyllic U.S. Pacific territory known as "Where America's Day Begins." The location's time zone alignment with North Eastern Australia offers a unique connectivity bridge between the United States and the Asia-Pacific region, enhancing cross-cultural and business interactions. The General Manager will be employed by AAT to act as the senior on-site representative, holding the highest operational authority on premise under a long-term Management Services Agreement with the Aquarium’s Principal owner.

As the senior leader, the General Manager assumes full accountability for the Aquarium's day-to-day operations, visitor experience, financial performance, workforce leadership, safety compliance, and community engagement. They will lead a team of about 20 full-time staff, including embedded AAT curatorial and aquarist experts, ensuring service delivery aligns with operational plans and budgets.

This role demands a dynamic individual with a balanced skill set combining hands-on leadership and strategic vision. The General Manager will be the vital liaison connecting ownership objectives, AAT’s global resources, and the operational team onsite to drive excellence and innovation. With access to AAT’s broad-ranging global expertise in life-support systems, animal care, and aquarium infrastructure, the successful candidate will lead with confidence, supported by world-class resources and specialist advice.

Key responsibilities include overseeing safe and ethical operations, ensuring revenue growth and financial control, developing a strong performance culture, ensuring compliance with animal welfare and regulatory standards, managing risk and emergency responses, and maintaining facilities and assets. The role also involves fostering stakeholder relationships within Guam’s tourism sector and delivering a premium guest experience supported by strategic marketing initiatives.

Candidates are expected to have a proven track record in senior management roles within aquariums, zoos, museums, or similar public-facing tourism attractions. Demonstrable commercial acumen, excellent people management skills, and an understanding of compliance and safety standards are essential. This is a career-defining opportunity to lead a prominent cultural institution through a landmark development phase, underpinned by the reputation and support of a globally respected aquarium management firm.

Joining AAT provides not only the chance to manage a significant iconic attraction but also the potential to progress into regional or group-level leadership roles within a pioneering global organization dedicated to aquatic facility excellence. If you are a visionary operational leader ready to steward the Aquarium of Guam to new heights, AAT invites you to apply and contribute to this landmark journey.
