The role of General Manager at Sterling Culinary Management is a pivotal leadership position responsible for overseeing all facets of cafe operations to guarantee optimal service delivery, financial performance, and long-term growth. As the leader of an individual cafe, the General Manager is entrusted with upholding the Sterling Culinary Management culture and ensuring that every guest interaction reflects the company's commitment to warmth, friendliness, and genuine hospitality. The General Manager directly reports to the Market Partner and assumes full accountability for the cafe's results.
Key responsibilities include managing costs, leading the team to deliver excellence in food and service standards, and fostering a positive work environment with clear communication and strategic planning. The General Manager plays a crucial role in training, mentoring, and coaching both front-of-house and back-of-house staff to maintain high standards of quality and hospitality. They are expected to conduct regular one-on-one meetings with managers, ensure training materials are current and comprehensive, and implement effective hiring strategies that minimize turnover and support team member retention. Financial management duties consist of analyzing budgets, controlling expenses, reconciling operational statements, and adjusting operations responsively to meet sales demands sustainably.
This role also entails maintaining a safe, clean, and secure environment for staff and guests, enforcing consistent operational protocols such as cleaning and building lock-down procedures. The General Manager will coordinate manpower planning, develop and execute shift meetings, and delegate responsibilities clearly to assistant managers to uphold high performance standards through all profit centers.

- Minimum three years managing a scratch kitchen corporate dining establishment
- Ability to speak, read, write, and understand English
- Basic computer skills including Microsoft Office, Micros POS system, and Ctuit financial suite
- Ability to supervise cafe team including assignment of duties and disciplinary actions
- Thorough knowledge of food products, standard recipes, and proper preparation

Job Duties
- Schedule and conduct weekly one-on-one meetings with managers to discuss results and action plans
- Ensure managers understand their responsibilities and expectations
- Maintain complete and organized training manuals and recipe books
- Conduct quarterly round tables with follow-up notes accessible to all team members
- Manage all training materials, systems, and tools for staff excellence
- Consistently lead effective shift meetings involving front and back of house teams
- Establish staffing levels per function and update managers weekly
- Coach managers on Corvirtus interviewing methods and validate hiring processes
- Provide full orientation for all new team members including FOH and kitchen
- Plan manpower proactively to maintain appropriate staffing and quality
- Explore local market opportunities for recruiting new managers and team members
- Drive consistent execution of food quality and guest satisfaction to increase sales
- Delegate profit center responsibilities with clear financial goals
- Submit complete and accurate monthly recap reports explaining variances
- Reconcile operations statements efficiently, documenting changes made
- Set and use declining budgets for all cost centers
- Adjust operations in response to sales fluctuations to meet business demands
- Oversee consistent cleaning and building lock-down procedures
- Take disciplinary actions when necessary to maintain team standards
