The General Manager (GM) at Casper Fermentables plays a critical leadership role in the day-to-day operations of the bakery. This position requires a high-energy individual who will oversee both the Front of House (FOH) and Back of House (BOH) teams, ensuring seamless coordination and operational efficiency. The GM acts as the heart of the shop, responsible for delivering excellent customer experiences, maintaining product consistency, managing financial targets, and fostering a positive workplace culture. Reporting directly to the owners, the General Manager is instrumental in scaling Casper Fermentables' operations while preserving the soul and authenticity of the neighborhood bakery.

The GM will handle various aspects of the business, including opening and closing procedures, staff hiring and mentorship, cost control, inventory management, vendor relations, and facility maintenance. Job Requirements

  • 3+ years of management experience in a bakery cafe or fast-casual environment
  • Knowledge of the Austin food scene
  • Interest in fermentation and artisanal food
  • Strong problem-solving skills in fast-paced situations
  • Proficiency with POS and scheduling software
  • Ability to manage financial targets and inventory control

Job Qualifications

  • 3+ years of management experience in a high-volume bakery cafe or fast-casual environment
  • Deep understanding of the Austin food scene and local market
  • Genuine interest in sourdough fermentation and artisanal food
  • Proficiency with POS systems such as Toast or Square scheduling software like Homebase or 7shifts and basic G-Suite

Job Duties

  • Manage daily opening/closing procedures ensuring the shop is floor-ready and operating efficiently
  • Hire train and mentor a diverse team of FOH staff and prep cooks fostering a culture of accountability kindness and hustle
  • Manage labor costs COGS and inventory ensuring P&L targets are met
  • Maintain warm knowledgeable hospitality acting as the face of the shop during peak hours and handling customer feedback with grace
  • Work closely with bakers and fermentation team to ensure product consistency across bagels spreads and specialty items
  • Coordinate with local suppliers and oversee maintenance of equipment ovens refrigeration and kombucha taps
