Job Description

Populus Seattle is a distinguished boutique hotel located in the historic Pioneer Square district of Seattle, Washington. Nestled within a significant adaptive reuse development, the building was originally constructed in 1907 using sturdy brick and heavy timber, embodying the craftsmanship of that era. This 120-room hotel features the first rooftop bar in Pioneer Square, a signature restaurant, and a design influenced by the lush Pacific Northwest rainforest, creating an immersive and evocative environment for its guests. Operated by Aparium Hotel Group, Populus is a place that honors local heritage and natural beauty, blending history with modern sustainable practices. The hotel emphasizes meaningful connections to its community alongside a deep commitment to environmental stewardship through biophilic design, seasonal cuisine, and mindful hospitality.

The General Manager role at Populus Seattle is a key leadership position reporting directly to the Regional Director of Operations. This exempt role offers an annual salary range of $200,000 to $240,000 and includes a comprehensive incentive plan. The General Manager is responsible for spearheading the overall operating strategy of the hotel, ensuring alignment with company pillars of translocal hospitality, intuitive service, and a collaborative culture while upholding the distinctive values of the Populus brand. As the executive leader, the role encompasses accountability for the guest experience, associate engagement, financial performance, and revenue generation. The General Manager is expected to embody the values of Aparium Hotel Group by actively engaging in the day-to-day operations, setting high standards through leadership by example, and maintaining close relationships with the surrounding neighborhood and community.

In this position, the General Manager must be a strategic thinker and consummate connector within the community, bridging relationships with local merchants, farmers, artisans, and civic leaders. A vital component of the role is community involvement that reflects the hotel's translocal hospitality philosophy. The leader must bring a people-first approach, fostering an engaging workplace culture that empowers associates and promotes a welcoming environment for guests. Financial acumen is essential, with the ability to manage the hotel’s profitability by interpreting profit and loss statements, controlling expenses, and driving top-line revenue through innovative sales and marketing strategies.

The General Manager is charged with nurturing a Food and Beverage-driven environment, working closely with culinary and beverage teams to ensure offerings are locally sourced, high quality, and reflective of the hotel’s Pacific Northwest roots. The role also demands a strong commitment to service excellence, whereby the General Manager models and enforces Aparium’s service and culture standards while encouraging associates to deliver authentic and thoughtful guest experiences. Engaged employees and satisfied guests are the foundation of the hotel’s success. The General Manager actively leverages guest feedback and serves as a visible, approachable leader who responds promptly to guest reviews and internal team needs.

Leadership style in this role calls for a balance of emotional intelligence and analytical rigor. The General Manager demonstrates adaptability, clear communication, integrity, and confidentiality. This role requires someone comfortable leading diverse teams, prioritizing tasks efficiently, and fostering a culture of collaboration and continuous improvement. The General Manager also ensures alignment between Aparium Management and Hotel Ownership, harmonizing interests to achieve shared goals.

As a part of Aparium Hotel Group, Populus Seattle celebrates diversity, equity, and inclusion, cultivating a workplace where associates take pride in who they are and the communities they serve. This opportunity offers more than a managerial position – it promises a chance to lead a historic venue committed to unparalleled guest experiences and meaningful local connections while advancing sustainable hospitality practices.
