Job Description

Firehouse Subs is a renowned restaurant chain famously known for its commitment to hearty and flavorful food, heartfelt service, and public safety. Founded in Jacksonville, Florida, in 1994 by brothers and former firefighters Chris Sorensen and Robin Sorensen, Firehouse Subs has consistently grown in stature and popularity by blending its unique heritage with a strong focus on community service. The brand is distinguished by its dedication to premium quality meats and cheeses piled high in every sub, alongside the support it provides to public safety through its non-profit Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation. This foundation plays a pivotal role in purchasing lifesaving equipment for first responders, demonstrating the company’s unwavering commitment beyond just food. Over the years, Firehouse Subs has been recognized for its community involvement, being proudly named the No.1 brand in the restaurant industry for supporting local community activities for three consecutive years based on Technomic Insight consumer data. Furthermore, Firehouse Subs of America and its suppliers pledge significant portions of purchases to the Foundation every year, including a minimum $1 million donation, highlighting its profound impact on public safety and community welfare.

The Firehouse Subs restaurant franchise where this role is based is independently owned and operated by a franchisee. As such, the employment decisions for this position are handled directly by the local franchise management, allowing for a close-knit team environment driven by customer service excellence and operational success. Employees and management alike share the vision of carrying on the founders’ legacy through superior food quality, outstanding service, and active community participation. This particular position offers full accountability for the profitable operation of a Firehouse Subs restaurant, functioning under the direct supervision of the Owner or Franchisee. The role is vital to ensuring that all company guidelines and regulations are strictly followed while championing the Firehouse culture of a cheerful, fun, and ethical workplace.

The Restaurant Manager is expected to be deeply engaged in daily operational tasks, with a strong focus on compliance with all local, state, and federal regulations ranging from health and safety to fair labor practices. They will lead the restaurant team toward achieving high standards in guest service, quality, and cleanliness, reflecting the brand’s unique identity and culture. Financial stewardship is critical as the manager is responsible for profitability by managing costs related to food, labor, utilities, and other controllable expenses while consistently working towards sales growth. Strategic implementation of company initiatives and operational game plans must be managed effectively and on schedule.

Team leadership is a major focus, requiring the Restaurant Manager to recruit, train, and develop qualified personnel, including Assistant Managers and Shift Managers, ensuring the entire team is well-prepared and motivated. The manager must also engage in local restaurant marketing activities and promote all Public Safety Foundation initiatives to enhance community presence and goodwill. Staying abreast of community affairs provides opportunities to leverage local public relations and sales benefits.

Additionally, the Restaurant Manager is charged with maintaining all restaurant equipment in proper working condition and communicating maintenance needs promptly. The position demands the physical capability to work on their feet for up to 13 hours and the ability to lift up to 50 lbs. Overall, this role is essential in representing Firehouse Subs professionally at all times while supporting the broader mission of hearty food, heartfelt service, and public safety. The position offers a salary of $49,000 per year, reflecting its importance and responsibility within the company.
