Job Description
Populus Seattle is a distinguished boutique hotel located in the heart of Seattle's historic Pioneer Square, an area known for its significant contributions to the city's cultural and architectural heritage. This hotel resides within one of the nation’s most notable adaptive reuse developments, housed in a building originally constructed in 1907. Crafted from sturdy brick and heavy timber, it stands as a proud testament to the skilled craftsmanship of its era, blending the stories of the grand continental railways with the vibrant history of Seattle’s bustling seaport. The 120-room boutique hotel not only provides guests with modern comfort but also features the area’s first rooftop bar and a signature restaurant, all enveloped in a design motif that evokes the rich Pacific Northwest rainforest, offering an immersive experience that celebrates local identity and nature.
As a full-service boutique hotel, Populus Seattle operates under the Aparium Hospitality Services umbrella, a company that values a strong connection to its community and environment. As such, its leadership roles go beyond traditional hospitality management; they embody the principles of translocal hospitality, intuitive service, and a collaborative culture. Aparium’s vision promotes a unique blend of lifestyle, local engagement, and environmental responsibility, striving to create a sense of belonging and well-being for guests, associates, and the neighborhood alike.
The General Manager position at Populus Seattle is a critical leadership role that reports directly to the Regional Director of Operations. This full-time, exempt position offers a competitive salary range of $180,000 to $200,000 annually, coupled with an incentive plan that rewards performance. The role demands a visionary leader who can drive operational excellence, deliver superior guest experiences, and foster a workplace culture that attracts and nurtures top-tier talent.
The General Manager is entrusted with the comprehensive responsibility of developing and executing the hotel’s operating strategy. Success in this role is measured through the ability to elevate hotel performance by increasing revenue, enhancing guest satisfaction, and building an engaging and inclusive culture for employees. This leader is expected to be highly hands-on, leading by example and prioritizing the cultivation of authentic local relationships that connect the hotel deeply with its neighborhood through participation in community projects, local boards, and partnerships with nearby artisans, merchants, and service providers.
Adeptness in financial management is key, as the General Manager must interpret profit and loss statements fluently, identifying opportunities to maximize top-line revenue while controlling costs to boost gross operating profit. Additionally, the role plays a pivotal part in the Food and Beverage operations, ensuring that the hotel’s restaurant and bar maintain high standards in quality and locality, supporting menus and beverage offerings that celebrate the Pacific Northwest’s unique flavors.
This leadership role requires someone who embodies Aparium’s Art + Science philosophy, blending innovative hospitality strategies with personalized guest services. The General Manager sets the tone for the entire team, ensuring that every department leader models the translocal hospitality principles that differentiate the brand. Furthermore, the General Manager must be proactive in responding to guest feedback, managing associate engagement, and fostering a positive work environment that encourages initiative and excellence.
In essence, the Populus Seattle General Manager is more than an operational leader; they are a community connector, a culture carrier, and a strategic visionary dedicated to crafting premier hospitality experiences that honor the hotel's historic roots and vibrant surroundings. This role is ideally suited for a highly experienced hospitality professional passionate about sustainable, community-oriented, and innovative hotel management in a distinct urban setting.
