The operations department plays a crucial role in ensuring that all aspects of restaurant performance align with the company’s standards and vision.

The position of General Manager in the Operations department at Golden Corral is a key leadership role responsible for overseeing day-to-day restaurant operations to ensure optimal performance. Reporting directly to the Director of Operations, the General Manager provides guidance and leadership to managers and crew leaders, including the Hospitality Manager, Kitchen Manager, Assistant Managers, Crew Leaders, and Crew Trainers. This role is pivotal in communicating and enforcing Golden Corral’s high operational standards, ensuring that every guest enjoys a pleasurable dining experience.

The General Manager’s responsibilities include managing financial, facility, and human resources within the restaurant in compliance with company policies and federal and state regulations. Budget adherence related to sales, food, labor, and controllable operating expenses falls under their purview. They ensure that all operation systems outlined in the company’s Operations Manual are implemented effectively and consistently. This leadership role requires not only managing the performance and development of team members through effective training, coaching, and appraisals but also covering key operational areas when managers are away to maintain smooth daily functions.

Another aspect of the role is recruiting, selecting, and orienting assistant managers and encouraging ongoing participation in training programs such as the Fast Pass for Success. Recognizing and rewarding exemplary performance among team members helps maintain high motivation and foster a culture of excellence. Additionally, the General Manager is responsible for training on company standards, recipes, marketing promotions, health and safety programs, and ensuring timely communication across restaurant staff.

With a focus on continuous improvement, the General Manager executes national and local marketing initiatives to boost customer counts and sales and ensures regular preventive maintenance both inside and outside the restaurant. This position demands a proactive leader capable of operating with minimal supervision while managing complex administrative responsibilities and maintaining a safe and positive work environment.

The ideal candidate will have a degree in business or hospitality, three to five years of diversified restaurant management experience, preferably with Golden Corral, and successful completion of the company's Manager in Training program. Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills are essential, along with the physical ability to perform varied tasks in a busy restaurant setting. Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • Degree in business or hospitality preferred
  • Minimum three years of restaurant management experience
  • Experience managing a diversified menu restaurant
  • Ability to work under minimal supervision
  • Standing and walking for periods of 2-5 hours without rest
  • Occasional moderate to heavy lifting (10-25+ lb)
  • Ability to perform task sequencing and complex administrative duties
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced, customer-contact environment
  • Adherence to company policies and ethics standards

Job Qualifications

  • Degree in business or hospitality
  • Three to five years experience in managing a restaurant with diversified menu offerings
  • One-year Golden Corral restaurant management experience preferred
  • Successful completion of the Golden Corral Manager in Training Program
  • Strong leadership and communication skills
  • Ability to manage complex administrative responsibilities

  • Knowledge of health and safety regulations
  • Proficiency in budgeting and financial management

Job Duties

  • Provide leadership to Kitchen Manager, Hospitality Manager and Assistant Managers through training, coaching, performance appraisal and development to ensure guests receive a pleasurable dining experience
  • Ensure all Golden Corral operations systems are in place for the restaurant in accordance with the Operations Manual
  • Ensure the restaurant is operated within budget for sales, food, labor and controllable operating expenses
  • Manage all company assets
  • financial, facility and human resources in accordance with company policy and all federal and state regulations
  • Ensure all company policies are followed including the Code of Ethics
  • Ensure Restaurant Operations Improvement Process (ROIP) standards are met
  • Provide coverage for the front of the house or back of the house when the Kitchen Manager or Hospitality Manager is away
  • Coach Associate Managers and other team members when problems are identified and follow-up to ensure corrections are made
  • Recruit, select and orient Assistant Managers into Golden Corral utilizing approved selection and interview process
  • Ensure team participation and certification in the Fast Pass for Success program
  • Recognize members of the restaurant team for exemplary performance and special occasions
  • Train Crew Leaders, Crew Trainers, Assistant Managers, Kitchen Manager and Hospitality Manager on changes in standards, recipes, marketing promotions and new policies
  • Train, implement and execute company health and safety programs to ensure a safe environment for team members and guests
  • Ensure systems are in place to support timely and regular communications to restaurant staff
  • Provide input and assist the Director of Operations in the development of the restaurant’s budget
  • Ensure preventive equipment maintenance is performed in the restaurant and on the property
  • Execute national and local restaurant marketing programs to drive customer counts and sales
