The work schedule is Monday through Friday, from 3:00 pm to 11:30 pm, spanning the 2024-2025 school year (260 working days).

The General Custodian plays a critical role in ensuring that the school facilities are clean, orderly, and safe for students, staff, and visitors. Under the direction of the Custodial Foreman and with guidance from the lead night custodian, the employee is responsible for cleaning assigned areas in the school buildings. Responsibilities include maintaining restrooms, floors, walls, windows, and furniture, operating cleaning equipment and floor machines, responding to emergencies, and ensuring security by locking up buildings at the end of shifts. The role may also include setting up rooms and equipment for special events and supervising temporary employees when needed. The custodian must demonstrate the ability to follow oral and written instructions accurately, work independently, communicate effectively and tactfully with staff and the public, and maintain a high standard of cleanliness according to the Facilities Department’s established procedures.

Job Requirements

Job Duties

  • Operate cleaning equipment as needed

  • Set up and clean after evening activities in assigned building
  • Substitute for a general custodian or other part-time employee
  • Be responsible for security and locking up building at night when leaving
  • Perform set-up of rooms and/or equipment for special events
  • Clean body fluid spills
