Job Description
The Grass Pad is a renowned family-owned company with a strong legacy that began in the 1960s in Omaha. Initially starting as a small business selling grass seed and fertilizer, the company has grown significantly over the decades to become a trusted name in the lawn care and gardening industry. Operating with a foundation built on honesty, integrity, and an unwavering commitment to customer success, The Grass Pad now proudly serves customers through six locations, including one in Omaha and five in the Kansas City area. The company culture emphasizes passion, dedication, and long-term commitment, which is evident as many employees have been with the company for many years. This reflects The Grass Pad's dedication to fostering an engaging workplace where team members can grow both professionally and personally. Employees are supported with career growth opportunities, management training, and comprehensive on-the-job training. As a merit-based company and an affirmative action, equal opportunity employer, The Grass Pad welcomes diverse talent and values a fair, inclusive work environment.
The Garden Center Cashier role at The Grass Pad's Olathe location offers a unique opportunity to join a vibrant, customer-focused team in a welcoming, green environment. This part-time and full-time position involves daytime shifts with some weekend availability and varying hours depending on the season, with the busiest times occurring in spring and fall. The role is essential as it places you at the forefront of customer interaction — you may often be the first and last person customers meet during their visit. The primary responsibilities include greeting customers warmly, managing cash and card transactions efficiently, and providing helpful guidance to ensure customers find the products they need. Although not expected to have all the answers, you will be knowledgeable about where to find important information and will assist in making the shopping experience smooth and enjoyable.
This position suits individuals with a positive attitude who enjoy engaging with people and appreciate working outdoors surrounded by plants. Experience as a cashier, attention to detail, multitasking skills, and an interest or background in gardening or lawn care are valuable assets for this role. Employees who show aptitude and dedication have opportunities to advance into supervisory positions. Beyond the transactional duties, cashiers contribute to merchandising efforts by setting up displays and signage, stocking shelves, and maintaining a tidy, attractive sales floor. You will also be responsible for managing calls, directing customers to the right sales team members, handling transactions for commercial clients using appropriate tax codes and charge accounts, and performing general clerical duties using computer-based point of sale systems. The role is dynamic, blending customer service, sales support, and operational tasks within a family-friendly and growth-oriented business environment.
The Grass Pad’s commitment to a positive and supportive workplace, along with its strong customer service values, makes this an excellent opportunity for individuals passionate about gardening, lawn care, and retail service. With seasonal variations, the position offers a flexible yet stable work schedule, with an emphasis on teamwork, professionalism, and personal connection with customers. This job could be your gateway to a rewarding career in the green industry with a company that values long-term employment and personal development.
