Job Description

The University of Kentucky, located in Lexington, KY, is a prestigious public research university committed to fostering an inclusive and dynamic environment for students, faculty, and staff. The university prides itself on offering various student employment opportunities to enhance professional development and educational experiences. Known for its dedication to diversity, inclusion, and the well-being of its community, the University of Kentucky maintains a Tobacco and Drug-Free campus that complies with federal and state nondiscrimination laws. Situated on a vibrant campus, the university serves as a hub for education, research, and community engagement across a broad spectrum of disciplines and fields.

The Federal Work Study (FWS) Summer 2026, Voices of Hope Part-Time Receptionist position offers an excellent opportunity for students seeking a part-time role within a supportive and mission-driven environment. This role pays $15.00 per hour and provides students with hands-on administrative experience at the Voices of Hope Recovery Community Center, located at 644 N Broadway, Lexington, KY 40508. The position centers on front desk management and office coordination, allowing the student employee to develop vital organizational, communication, and customer service skills.

As the Voices of Hope Part-Time Receptionist, the student will be the welcoming face for visitors and participants, ensuring they receive a warm and positive first impression. This involves greeting visitors, managing phone calls and messages, overseeing visitor sign-ins and sign-outs, and providing information about the center's services and programs. Administrative responsibilities include general clerical duties such as data entry, filing, managing office supplies, scheduling appointments, and preparing materials for meetings and events. Additionally, the receptionist assists in participant registration and supports members in connecting with recovery resources, maintaining strict confidentiality of member information.

The role demands a flexible schedule with weekday and weekend shifts between 8:00 am and 5:00 pm. The ideal candidate will demonstrate excellent communication and interpersonal skills, strong organizational aptitude, proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, and the ability to operate office management software efficiently. Beyond administrative capabilities, the role requires empathy, patience, and a non-judgmental attitude reflective of the center's supportive mission. A background in working with recovery communities or non-profit organizations is a plus but not mandatory.

This student position does not entail supervisory responsibilities but requires dedication towards maintaining a neat reception area, supporting event planning and coordination, collaborating with staff and volunteers, and staying informed about local recovery community events. Multilingual candidates, particularly bilingual individuals, are encouraged to apply, expanding effective communication within the community. Candidates must be at least 18 years old and hold a high school diploma or equivalent, with preference given to those pursuing higher education.

Overall, this part-time receptionist role is an exceptional gateway for students to gain valuable work experience while contributing to a meaningful cause that supports individuals in recovery. It aligns perfectly with the mission of the University of Kentucky to serve the community through education, engagement, and compassion. The position emphasizes professionalism, teamwork, adaptability, and a positive, solutions-oriented mindset in a collaborative environment.
