The Full-Time Patient and Family Concierge, Senior position at UPMC Passavant offers an exciting opportunity for individuals passionate about enhancing the patient experience and supporting hospital operations. This role is critical in facilitating smooth administrative processes and assisting patients and their families throughout their healthcare journey. The position is part of the Resource Pool and involves variable shifts, including daylight, evening, weekend, and holiday hours, accommodating the dynamic needs of the hospital units. Employees in this role are allotted a resource differential for as long as they remain in the resource pool. The salary for this position ranges from $18.79 to $28.03 per hour, commensurate with education and experience.
The Patient and Family Concierge, Senior primarily manages administrative duties such as answering and transferring calls, printing reports, entering physician orders, distributing mail, and checking crash carts. Coordination of patient tests, procedures, and transports is a crucial responsibility, alongside handling errands and managing communication devices like CyraCom equipment and Responder 5 phones. This role supports patient chart management by organizing paperwork, filing, and printing chart copies as needed. Additionally, the position requires updating electronic health records for patient admissions, discharges, and transfers and maintaining bed boards while coordinating work orders for equipment.
Beyond administrative tasks, the Concierge role involves direct patient and family interaction, offering assistance, providing directions, and facilitating a welcoming hospital environment. Responsibilities extend to environmental services, including cleaning, bed making, and trash removal, as well as safe patient transport and supply management. The individual in this role must also respond to patient calls, conduct hourly rounds, distribute care plans, and participate in audits and bulletin board updates. Adherence to mandatory reporting procedures and system-wide competency standards is expected, with flexibility to undertake other duties as assigned.
This position is open to Veterans, Transitioning Military, National Guard Members, Military Spouses, Wounded Warriors, and their Caregivers who meet the necessary skills, education, and experience criteria. Job Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent
- six months of relevant experience
- demonstrated competency in patient concierge duties
- strong communication skills
- ability to multi-task and coordinate administrative and patient support tasks
- familiarity with electronic health records
- commitment to compassionate patient care
- completion of required annual contributions
- ability to follow instructions
- background checks including Act 34 clearance
Job Qualifications
- High school diploma or one year of previous job experience in lieu of high school diploma or GED
- six months of experience as a Patient and Family Concierge or equivalent
- demonstrated competency in all responsibilities of Patient and Family Concierge role
- internal promotions based on business unit performance assessment
- desire, drive, and compassion to provide exceptional patient and family experience
- completion of one annual contribution such as committee participation, departmental project, peer interviewing, or onboarding/precepting
- ability to follow written and verbal instructions
Job Duties
- Handle department administrative tasks including answering phones, transferring calls, printing reports, entering and communicating physician orders, distributing mail, and checking crash carts
- Coordinate patient tests, procedures, and transports
- complete errands
- order and maintain CyraCom equipment
- assign Responder 5 and phones
- Build and maintain patient charts, file papers, manage auto-print reports, and print chart copies upon request
- Complete patient admissions, discharges, and transfers through the electronic health record
- Update Bedboards and communicate changes
- place work orders or contact Biotronics for equipment issues
- Greet and assist hospital guests
- provide directions and information
- use computers for patient information while respecting confidentiality
- Clean assigned areas and remove trash
- make beds and ensure cleanliness
- report issues to the supervisor
- Safely transport patients and equipment
- deliver supplies and record transportation data
- report activities to the manager
- Order and organize supplies
- maintain inventory and check expiration dates
