Job Requirements

  • Maintain an excellent attendance record
  • comfortable working in a psychiatric hospital environment
  • food safety handler card required within the first week of employment
  • able to work day, weekend or evening shifts upon 48-hour notice
  • available for on-call shifts
  • willing to be flexible in job assignments to meet patient care needs
  • work well in a team environment

Job Qualifications

  • High school degree or equivalent
  • food service experience in a treatment center, health care or treatment center setting preferred
  • ability to concentrate on work amidst distractions such as noise, conversations and foot traffic
  • experience in meeting deadlines and finishing food preparation at specified serving times
  • able to use kitchen equipment such as knives, slicers, mixers and dishwashers
  • knowledge of hygiene factors involved in food preparation
  • able to work independently in a physically demanding environment
  • maintains confidentiality of patients
  • sensitivity to diverse social, cultural, economic and educational backgrounds
  • good judgment
  • able to read, write and communicate in English
  • ability to work independently and as part of a team

Job Duties

  • Assemble and prepare food and snacks as directed
  • prepare and serve meals for patients, employees and guests
  • organize and deliver prepared food to patient areas
  • properly process, store, and prepare food on a tight timeline
  • maintain high level of kitchen sanitation related to food preparation, dish room activities and employee’s personal hygiene
  • consistent documentation of food labeling, dating and kitchen procedures
  • serve behavioral health patients and staff with a friendly and helpful demeanor at all times
