The Lead Cook position at Oahu Care Facility plays an essential role in our Dietary Services Department. This full-time role demands a dynamic leader who thrives in a fast-paced environment, demonstrating expertise in food preparation, kitchen management, and nutrition-focused meal service. The Lead Cook is charged with preparing and cooking meals adhering to carefully planned menus and dietary requirements tailored to the therapeutic needs of residents. Beyond culinary duties, the role involves leading and mentoring dietary staff during shifts to maintain seamless kitchen operations. Food safety, sanitation, and infection control are paramount in this position to ensure the health and safety of both residents and staff. Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Previous cook experience in healthcare or food service
  • Leadership skills or experience in a similar role
  • Knowledge of food safety and sanitation practices
  • Ability to comply with therapeutic and modified diet guidelines
  • Physical ability to stand for long periods and lift heavy items
  • Availability to work full-time including weekends and holidays

Job Qualifications

  • Previous experience as a cook in healthcare, long-term care, or high-volume food service preferred
  • Leadership or lead cook experience strongly preferred
  • Knowledge of modified diets (mechanical soft, puree, renal, diabetic, etc.) a plus
  • Food safety and sanitation knowledge required
  • Ability to stand for long periods and lift up to 50 lbs
  • Reliable, punctual, and team-oriented

Job Duties

  • Prepare and cook meals in accordance with planned menus, therapeutic diets, and portion control guidelines
  • Lead and support dietary staff during assigned shifts
  • Ensure compliance with sanitation, food safety, and infection control standards
  • Monitor food quality, temperature, presentation, and timeliness
  • Assist with inventory control, proper storage, and rotation of food supplies
