As an hourly non-exempt position, the line cook role at CityGate Grille features a competitive compensation range of $23.00 to $25.00 per hour, reflecting experience and education, with added incentives such as a $250 signing bonus (subject to a 90-day waiting period).

This role is essential in assisting with daily food preparation and maintaining efficient kitchen operations under the supervision of the Executive Chef. The line cook will perform duties across multiple stations, aiding and supervising less experienced cooks to ensure food is prepared according to recipes, portion controls, and presentation guidelines aligned with management standards. The kitchen environment at CityGate Grille is fast-paced and requires a high level of organization, cleanliness, and teamwork. Candidates must be willing to work flexible schedules, including evenings, Fridays, and Saturdays, to meet the demands of the business. Responsibilities also include food storage according to health code regulations, maintaining sanitation and kitchen organization, and reporting any equipment malfunctions promptly. The line cook plays a vital role in the overall guest experience by ensuring consistency, quality, and timely food preparation while supporting the training of new staff members. This position demands physical stamina, including the ability to stand for extended periods and lift up to 25 pounds regularly. Job Requirements

  • high school diploma or equivalent education
  • culinary degree or pursuit of degree from a recognized culinary institute
  • or equivalent experience
  • five or more years experience as a line cook preferred
  • knowledge of safety, sanitation and food handling procedures
  • Illinois food handlers certificate required
  • must be organized, self-motivated, and proactive
  • neat and clean appearance
  • ability to work in a team environment
  • must have a flexible schedule and be available to work nights weekends, and holidays
  • must be able to stand and exert well-paced mobility for up to 8 hours
  • must be able to lift up to 25 pounds on a regular basis
  • must have a neat and clean appearance and uniform

Job Qualifications

Job Duties

  • covers all stations throughout the kitchen as necessary
  • assist cooks 2, 3 and 4 in the preparation of foods according to guests' orders or supervisors' instructions, following approved procedures
  • trains and supervises cooks 2, 3 & 4 in the preparation of food
  • preps food for service in accordance with established standardized recipes
  • sets up station and ensures that the work area is operated in an efficient manner
  • follows recipes, portion controls and presentation specifications as set by the management
  • restock items as needed throughout the shift
  • supports all training of other staff members as needed
  • informs supervisor of any kitchen equipment or machinery that is not working properly
  • properly stores food in designated containers and areas according to health department guidelines
  • assists in the cleaning, sanitation and organization of kitchen, walk-in coolers and all storage areas
  • follows all CGG departmental policies and procedures
  • performs all related duties as assigned
