Job Requirements

  • high school diploma or ged
  • prior cooking experience
  • ability to prepare and cook a variety of foods in large quantities
  • awareness of special diets, seasoning requirements, cooking times and temperature controls
  • ability to estimate quantities of food required, utilize leftovers while serving attractive, appetizing meals, and ability to limit waste

Job Duties

  • prepare and direct the preparation of salads, soups, fish, meats, vegetables, desserts, and other foods
  • ensure all meals are restaurant quality, nutritionally balanced, and attractively served
  • adhere to cooking times and temperature controls
  • accommodate special diets and seasoning requirements
  • estimate quantities of food required and utilize leftovers to limit waste
  • maintain cleanliness and organization in the kitchen
  • collaborate with dining and care staff to meet residents' needs
