The Huntsville MidCity location of Tous Les Jours is currently seeking a motivated Cake Decorator/Baker to join their team. This role is crucial for maintaining the bakery's standards of excellence, as the Cake Decorator/Baker will be responsible for crafting and decorating specialty cakes and select pastries that attract and satisfy customers. Precision, creativity, and an eye for detail are vital in this position, as cakes need to be both visually stunning and delicious. The Cake Decorator/Baker will assemble, fill, and finish cakes while following detailed recipe instructions and design guidelines. Their work will be prominently displayed in the store's cake display case, making presentation an essential aspect of this role.
In addition to cake decoration, the position involves daily bakery operations, such as opening the bakery early in the morning, adhering to food safety standards, cleaning kitchen equipment, and managing inventory. The ability to work effectively as part of a team and deliver consistent quality on time is important, especially in a fast-paced environment. The Cake Decorator/Baker must keep the work area clean and organized, track supplies, and assist with training new team members as needed. Job Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Previous experience in baking or pastry arts preferred
- Ability to work early morning hours
- Knowledge of food safety standards
- Physical ability to stand for extended periods and handle kitchen equipment
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
- Strong attention to detail
- Good communication skills
Job Qualifications
- Experience as a baker, pastry chef or similar role is plus
- Familiarity with all professional kitchen equipment, including mixers, blenders and dough sheeters
- Understanding of food safety practices
- Excellent time-management skills
- Ability to remain calm and focused in a fast-paced environment
- Team spirit, with a customer-focused attitude
- Flexibility to work in early morning shifts
- Certification from a culinary school is a plus
- Speaking English and Spanish is a plus
Job Duties
- Open the bakery early in the morning (5:30am - 11:00am)
- Ensure food safety standards
- Clean kitchen equipment and tools before/after use
- Mix various ingredients to create fillings for breads and pies (e.g. cream and fruits)
- Track food supplies and place orders, as needed
- Train team members if needed
- Assemble, fill, and finish/decorate cakes and select pastries
- Build, ice, and decorate cakes and other bakery goods following recipe instructions
- Maintain the cake display case and fill it with designated cakes and pastries
- Manage and complete daily production list requirements
- Maintain a clean and organized work area
- Maintain inventory and report as assigned
