The role of Fresh Foods Department Supervisor at Harris Teeter is a critical position responsible for ensuring excellent care of customers by meeting and exceeding their expectations during each shopping visit. This supervisory role involves managing up to 80 associates within the Fresh Foods Department and assisting the Department Manager with the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of departmental operations. The Fresh Foods Department offers a wide selection of products and amenities, including bakery, chef-prepared items, sushi, and specialty bars, requiring a leader who understands both product knowledge and management skills.

In this role, you will perform various supervisory duties such as overseeing personnel by interviewing, training, and managing associates, planning and directing work schedules, evaluating individual and team performance, as well as addressing complaints and resolving workplace issues effectively. The position requires a commitment to delivering unparalleled customer service, working cooperatively with team members, and handling multiple tasks efficiently under pressure. Job Requirements

  • high school diploma or GED
  • one to three years related experience and/or training or equivalent combination

  • ability to manage multiple tasks and work under pressure
  • ability to read and comprehend simple instructions and correspondence in English
  • ability to write simple correspondence in English
  • ability to present information effectively in one-on-one and small group situations
  • knowledge of HT Internet, e-mail, inventory, spreadsheet, and word processing software
  • ability to perform basic mathematical operations using American money and measurements
  • ability to apply common sense understanding to execute instructions
  • completion of company training including new hire orientation, customer service network, safety, food safety, and department manager training
  • ability to stand, walk, use hands, reach, talk, hear, taste, smell
  • occasionally climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch
  • ability to lift and move up to 40 pounds regularly and up to 60 pounds occasionally

Job Duties

  • take excellent care of customers by satisfying needs and exceeding expectations
  • manage and supervise up to 80 associates in the Fresh Foods Department
  • assist the Department Manager with overall direction, coordination, and evaluation
  • perform supervisory responsibilities such as interviewing, training, planning, assigning, directing work, appraising performance, rewarding and disciplining associates
  • address complaints and resolve problems
  • perform duties of baker/fryer, cake decorator, Fresh Foods clerks, and chef as needed
  • participate in training and team orientation to increase customer satisfaction and sales
