The Full-Time Library Customer Adviser role at the Price Hill Branch is a dynamic position focused on direct interaction with library customers. The Library Customer Adviser’s duties include circulating materials such as checking items in and out, processing holds, registering new customers, and collecting fees. Advising customers on technology usage, assisting with reference inquiries, and providing readers' advisory ensure that patrons have access to meaningful information and resources. Moreover, the Adviser engages in collection maintenance by shelving returned materials, weeding outdated books, and ensuring the correct order of shelves. Participation in the location’s shared responsibilities like desk setup, managing bookdrops, delivery, and interagency requests further supports daily operations.
Additionally, the Adviser helps facilitate library programs, assists with displays and meeting room approvals, and acts as a liaison by referring customer issues to management when necessary. The position also involves handling monetary transactions related to fees and being prepared to serve as the person-in-charge in the absence of leadership. Job Requirements
- Skill in customer service
- ability to arrange materials in alphabetical and numerical order
- ability to work independently and with coworkers in a wide variety of situations with minimal supervision
- ability to use all technology applicable to the essential functions of the job and commonly used by the library
- lifting objects up to 50 pounds and carrying them short distances 50 feet or less is required
- pushing carts of library materials up to 150 pounds is required
- working irregular hours including evenings and weekends is required
Job Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent is required
- no certifications or licensure required
- no years of relevant experience necessary
- no supervisory experience required
Job Duties
- Circulates materials to customers including checking materials in and out processing holds registering customers and collecting fees
- assists customers with various technologies
- shelves returned materials
- searches for requested materials
- performs readers' advisory and reference services
- participates in the location's shared responsibilities including desk setup bookdrop delivery ILS reports supply orders and filling interagency requests
- assists in collection maintenance including weeding and reading shelves to ensure correct order
- assists with programs displays and meeting room approvals
- refers customers' issues and complaints to managers and or designated persons-in-charge
- prepares and deposits money from fees
- serves as the person-in-charge in the absence of leadership as needed
- interprets the library's policies and procedures to the public in a customer-friendly manner
- supports and advances the library's mission of connecting people with the world of ideas and information
